You will have to place a scripted object on the land which notices that the land has been sold (i.e. that the owner has changed) and then notifies you accordingly.

I don't remember getting a notification last time I sold land.

You will just get the L$ added to your account. So you will know it's been paid for and sold. If your in world when it happens then you will get the blue drop down window "AV SO-SO" has just paid you xL$". If you are not in world then you will notice the amount of L$ you have has increased by the sale price. You may also check your transaction history at your "my account" page and see the AV's name who purchased.

Unless it's group-owned land in which case the group-dividend payout will happen sometime early the next day and happen quietly.

I usually put up a couple of signs on the property that I'm selling.

When I log in and get instantly bombarded with automated messages that look someting like: "Your object 'for sale sign' has been returned to you from parcel yaddayaddaxxx.xxx.xxx", I know that the place has sold.
