When someone in the skyboxes above me watches their movies on their TV, it's automatically showing it on my TV on the ground. How do I fix this?

That's pretty much the default nature of parcel media. There's something called "Silver Stream" that I understand gets around this somehow, though I'm totally unclear on just how it works, or what you can actually do with it. The other option is to divide up the parcel so that all the TVs end up on different parcels.

Group land??

I'm not sure, but maybe the two of you of identical tv's, and therefore both media textures would be the same, which would cause the images to be viewed on yours. So you may be out of luck.

However, I really don't know for sure, because both tv's would compete for the media stream. Sorry I can't be more help Honey.

Yes, it's group land and the movie person is my hubby...lol....and the tvs are by the same creator.

Doesn't matter who it is though, I need to figure out a way to stop it :)

if it is all on the same land like a skybox above your house there is no way i know of to change it would have to move the skybox over to a edge of the parcel and divide it to its own lil section so it would have its own media

with you both being on the same land one on top of the other your sharing the same movie and music section

A texture is chosen to display the video stream.

The video stream is chosen that is to be displayed.

These are determined by the parcel (no matter what height).

Whatever video stream is set for your parcel will display on any prim with that texture on it within your sight.

For fun, you should see what happens when the "blank" texture is chosen as the video texture... all prims with the blank texture will display your video to you, no matter what land THEY are on, as long as YOU are on your own land.

Regarding putting the tv's in seperate sub-parcels... this won't work unless you are also in that sub-parcel. You can't sit in one spot and see two different videos (unless someone found a trick to doing it) even if the tv's are on seperate parcels.

Hubby would need to be sitting on a different parcel with a different video stream (you can use identical tv's even as long as the tv tuner is in the parcel where he is sitting) in order to see something different than you.

Oh, quite right, excellent point. Just to expand a bit on the "Silver Stream" thing: I haven't played with this at all, but I gather that it's possible to direct the media stream to individual agents, using the PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_AGENT parameter to the llParcelMediaCommandList() function. So the basic idea seems to be that you register yourself with the media controller ("TV", perhaps) by proximity or by touching it or something, and then it knows that your viewer is supposed to get its specific media stream. But standard "TV" products in SL don't do this. It might make an amusing scripting project for somebody to experiment with this.

I'm having a tough time believing that all those rental skyboxes you see around, stacked 10 tall are on separate subparcels. Maybe I need to go skybox jumping tonight, and see if I can figure out what those landlords are using.

Most of the rental skyboxes that I have seen, are each over a separate piece of ground, so each has its own stream assigned to it. If they are arranged directly above each other there is only one audio and one video stream allowed for each parcel of land.
