hi =)

my client freezes randomly (maybe once per hour on average) for about 20 to 120 seconds.
i think it started with one of the last 2 or 3 updates (possible it was the voice update but not sure, and i don´t have voice activated btw). didn´t change anything in my system.

i wanted to ask if others have the same problem that started lately with one of the last updates before i report it.

ty :)

Ohhhh yes I've noticed this.

To *great* consternation. Try having five conversations at once and then getting frozen for two minutes at the worst possible timing.

I experienced it for the first time today, Yuriko. I thought that the client had crashed, but it recovered after 30 seconds, so you're not alone. I don't have voice activated either.

I have been experiencing this too. I assumed at first that it was my computer freezing up, but after some testing I found that it was the SL client freezing. It started around the time of the voice client here too, and I run with voice diabled.

I can add a little history that may/may not be of interest.

30-second-or-longer client freezes began with a voice client distributed shortly before Sep.22nd. At the time, there was more than one cause of them, and the open source community began chasing them. They appeared more likely on particular hardware setups than on others - there are some few threads in the forums about this. Nicholaz's client began incorporating fixes shortly thereafter, and I believe that in his client most of these are fixed. However (disclaimer), since I never personally experienced this, I cannot swear to it from personal experience.

I do not know how many of the open source fixes have made it into LLs released client, but a careful read of the release notes for the last few clients should tell you, should you need help sleeping tonight. Sorry, I am a real Nicholaz bigot, once a bug gets fixed there I don't track its status in the released client.

What version client are you-all running?

It is not outside the realm of possibility that the optional client distributed .. when, today? .. has opened up some new variants of this bug.

p.s I tried to find the bug(s) in Jira to see if LL thinks they're fixed, but there have been so many different 'freezes' reported that i just couldn't sort thru it in the limited time i have tonight. sorry!

This has happened to me too with the last 2 or 3 updates after the voice client, before this has never happened.

Love it when your are moving forward when this happens and you end up 3 sims away from where you wanted to be.

Seems to happen more often when you are not moving for a few minutes and you either turn around or begin to move.

Same here. Additional question/info: when this happens to you, does your hard drive run pretty continuously during the frozen period, only to return to semi-nonactivity when back to normal?

/me thinks it may be cache related.

I would have this problem occasionally even prior to voice with most any of SL's clients. Most all Nicholaz clients I've used never did this.

thanks for all the replys so far :)

i had the problems with the last 2-3 clients (before the newest one). i updated today, and have not experienced it since then, but it maybe coincidence.

but i will let you know when i have tested it for a bit longer (bedtime now ;) )

@ rhom: no hdd activity at all, if your hdd freaks out it maybe that your ram is full, and your machine starts to swap. my computer works normal when that freezing happens only the client freezes

OMG I thought it was my PC it just started happening to me about 2 weeks ago, right around the same time my CPU fan died

so I blamed it on my PC

not related to the voice client as it never did it to me before with voice and did not coincide with any updated version

strangeness

Use of the Nicholaz client cut this down a lot for me, but also, in the last week, i have triipled my memory RAM from one gig to three, and this also has reduced the freezes and the writing to hard drive, obviously.

Clearing cache is supposed to be a big help

I guesss its all memory related, but i am no geek

Am suffering from this also but thought it was due to an exceptional script load I've placed on my island. Ironically I'm glad in a way it's not just me. It only seems to have occured for me on the last 2 updates. I'm currently running on the latest Release Candidate so no bug fix in there one can presume.

/me tootles off to the JIRA and the latest Nicholaz viewer.

The freeze has been happening to me for a couple of weeks. I can almost duplicate it: it happens when I'm either standing or sitting and quickly hit the right and left arrows to turn my view around.

The screen freezes for 20 to 30 seconds, like it's going to crash, and then everything is normal again.

same here, specially when having the client at the same view for awhile (editing notecards, scripts, watchingt tv, IM`s) and when rotating it freezes up

did some testing and found out that it happens most of the time with the water ripple effects on
love the water view with ripples so taking the freezes for granted and just relog more often :(

For anyone concerned, the freezing is not related to Voice in issolation. Memory leaks is the biggest cause, however as reported on the blogs, LL have been having issues with the VPN's which has been freezing the Grid.

my system:

winxp
athlon @2.2 gig
1 gig ram
radeon x1650
soundblaster sound (-.-)

but as i sayed i have not changed anything when the freezing occured first

now that many people mentioned that it appears to happen after standing for a while and then turning, i think it´s the same for me, but i can only tell from my memory, i have not "tryed" it =)

well when it doesnt stop now with the latest viewer i may give nicholaz a try
(and report the issue to jira if it´s not there allready)

Another one for the standing still freezes more contingent. I stand in a shop and turn to see behind. Study, then return to front ... freeze .. textures reloading :(

Nishi, I am freezing are times myself ands I have a higher spec system. What some are saying is the codes are not working correctly and just fouling up the UI. Badly coded UI can cause such occurances. As some have said go to the issues tracker and file a ticket or vote on freezing condition. frankly after i had to switch from the non voice viewer to this crappy badly coded Voice client ( with voice turned off ). I had freezing issues on end.
Lets hope the fianlly take us seriously ..............
