I bought it in a texture pack from a reputable vendor. I've used it frequently in my builds, and it still exists in my builds, both in the ones already rezzed on my land and the copies of builds used in objects I have in my inventory. But the texture itself is gone.
Has anyone had this happen to them?

try clearing cache, relog, and let your inventory redownload everything. that usually fix it. i suggest doing this, after the server is all better.

I've lost a few things over time and, in each case, never really been sure whether it was accidental deletion by me during an extreme inventory tidy-up or a LL asset server error.
You've already done the usual trick of using the inventory search bar to look for it? Edward's trick of clearing cache and reloading your inventory is a good one, try logging in to a reasonably empty low lag sim when you do this, it speeds it up a bit.
If it doesn't come back then, if it IS down to a LL issue, it may return to you one day. LL are currently going through and fixing missing inventory bugs and people's stuff is coming back to them that they lost years ago. However, LL are doing this in batches. They're unable to help individuals who lose just one item.

Have you tried editing the texture in question on some specific item you own? When I go to the textures tab and double click a face, it brings it up in my inventory.

Possibility #1: Your inventory hasn't fully indexed yet. Try searching for "a", then "b", then clear the search, and wait for the index count to stop rising. Then see if you can search for the name of the texture.
Possibility #2: The texture in your inventory may have accidentally been moved to a different folder. Search for its name.
In either of the above cases, once inventory is fully indexed, attempting to edit a prim with that texture on it should show that texture's location in your inventory.
Possibility #3: The asset server ate your copy. This certainly does happen. If you have tried all the other suggestions for finding your missing texture set, most "reputable vendors" will happily replace any set that has been lost in this manner, as long as they can determine that you actually purchased that set in the past.

Yes, the asset server can and does eat textures. At least in this case, it wasn't the parent texture or it would show up as "Missing Image" on all items using the texture.
Since the others have offered the advice to hopefully finding it, my suggestion is that since most textures are full perm, go ahead and put a copy in a prim or a texture organizer so you have a back up of it for your inventory.

If it was one of those "totally clear" or "full transparent" textures: I lost mine from my inventory, but at the same time they gladly appeared under another name in the SL Library. Coincidence?
