I'm wondering whether anyone has tried PCGamerBike or something similar (if so, which?) with SL?

http://PCgamerbike.com is basically a standing usb-bike that you use to walk around 3d games.

At a thousand bucks for the not yet released recumbent version, I doubt there will be many folks trying that.

There's been some discussion of such things in these forums.
/112/c7/64757/1.html

That's in the archived Sandbox forum.

My latest thought on making an exercise system for use while sitting at the computer is just a great big (huge) keyboard, where you press keys by hitting them with your fists, like playing some kind of drum.

Some of my older computercizing ideas are the 20 lb. mouse and the "left arrow way over there, right arrow way over the other way".

I guess you could just get one of the split keyboards and put the halfs five or six feet apart.

The problem with exercising while computing is - if you really liked exercise, you'd get up and do some. No matter how easy you make the exercise, it would still be easier to not do it than it would be to do it. So you sit at your bike-controller, then you get your wireless keyboard out, soon your aren't pedaling at all, next the bike controller is sitting in the corner on top of the treadmill, next to the old-fashioned exercise bike.

Hmm they have a cheaper option for $179 http://www.gamecycles.com/proddetail.php?prod=PCGamerBike

it's primarily the software/driver that's interesting. albeit it's just a simple mapping for device to ascii input, you'd be amazed how often the mappings are mis-applied

Yeah, the $179 dollar one is vastly more interesting owing to price.

There's an story on the internet about a guy that hooked up a treadmill to use as an SL controller.

I'm thinking qDot Bunnyhug might know about this stuff.

That old thread - the one I found; I think there's another one - mentions a person using a bike controller hooked to a video game and actually using it for a workout.

I'd look to see the exerputing idea developed into something social - instead of biking alone through SL, bike with other people, and give yet other people rides.

A old friend of mine for many years worked at IBM buildt a proto type .At the end it was not cost efective. So he build one for his family. Never reached production stage. Indeed the cost was unthinkable. But it was sure fun to play on.

I should talk to my uncle about this, he has been designing electronics for sports equipment using USB as the interface to the computer.

i really like the idea of being able to navigate SL without using arrow keys
i could basically type while walking ;-P

so it's not really a matter of exercise - it's also efficiency.

i'm just worried about compatibility with SL. a lot of things that were once compatible are no longer -- for example, the 3d connexion space nav, for example
