Are there any ecosystems out there on the grid?
By this I mean "animals" (i.e. scripted objects) moving, feeding, mating, generating offspring, dying, maybe serving as prey for predators ... all sorts of interaction with the environment and each other.
Using Search/All I found references to the "Terminus" region, but whatever it was, it does not seem to exist anymore.
Methinks there is some potential in an SL based ecosystem simulation. I can't imagine that nobody tried that before.

There are some wildlife and safari like SIMS, but the animals are usually just low prim, low animated stick figures walking in small circles.
It would be cool to have more intelligent wildlife objects, but someone will have to create that first I guess.

I have read about an ocean ecosystem that had fish that ate other fish and there was fish death....it was beta when I read about it. There was a problem with some of the fish that ate other fish sneaking across parcel lines and attempting to eat fish uninvolved with the initial experiment.

Would be happy to consider hosting such an experiment for free on part of my work island if anyone's interested! (it's a University maths department island).

That's what Svarga is really intended to be, maybe that kind of gets lost with all the interesting individual things to see there.

You can pick up the shreds of the Terminus project here: http://www.slecosystem.com/wiki/index.php?title=Plants although the wiki is so badly vandalised it's hard to find everything. They have another set of sims somewhere but I don't think it's actively maintained anymore and I can't recall the sim names.

Thanks for the responses, folks!
In the meantime I found secondlife://Second%20Nature%203/150/105/21 which appears to host a pretty complex ecosystem. For sure there are enough scripts running there for it.

sl's early planning included aligator-like creatures which fed on some sort of birds...there was a video on youtube somewhere.
Early on in sl I had hoped to see roaming herds of dinosaurs, sea monsters, birds, fish and all kinds of animals.
Now Id just be happy to fly across a region without crashing on hitting the boundary.

The SL Ecosystem at Terminus was an awesome place to hang out - you could watch the little critters bop around and feed. There's a freebie place there now. I did some seaching inworld and I think its successor is on Second Nature 3 Island. The lifeforms look similar. But, I must get back to my family Thanksgiving now so I can't explore in more detail at the moment. Happy Turkey Day!

There was a fair amount of AI work going on at one time, but I'm not there are people working on packs, feeding, breeding, etc. now.
