Why does LL only look at the quantity of reports?

I know someone who just got suspended for 14 days because someone reported him with 30 alts. Alts all coming from the same IP, all unverified. Yeah he's filing a ticket and maybe it'll be corrected. The point is this shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Because they're understaffed and the squeaky wheel gets the oil?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I bet that if they can knock 50 off with one action, they'll do it for the end of day/week metrics.

In this post, Danny-Boy Linden Describes how they have gone froma 1 Abuse Report / 1 resolution system which they couldn't keep up with, to a system that prioritizes ARs

Maybe the system they came up with puts undue weight to repetitive ARs for the same thing.

That could be it too. Especially if they have a metric like that.

I seriously doubt that the ONLY thing they look at is the quantity of AR's. LL knows there are people out there who will try to game the system. This http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/18/changes-in-abuse-report-resolution/ seems to say they use the number of AR's to prioritize their response to address extremely disruptive AR's more quickly.

14 days suspension from LL is pretty stiff penalty, your friend must have done something pretty bad to get that, he probably deserved it. As you can see by the two examples below they do apply different punishments for similar violations. Its only reasonable to assume the 14 days was for a more extreme violation.

Date: Sunday, March 16, 2008
Violation: Community Standards: Assault, Scripted Objects
Region: Card
Description: Assaulting others in safe region.
Action taken: Suspended 14 days.

Date: Sunday, March 16, 2008

Region: Sandbox Island

Action taken: Suspended 1 days.

Yeah, whatever LL does must be right! Believe what you want. I know for a fact the person I am talking about did nothing. He was suspended because of one person using 30 alts to report him.

The abuse report system is a black box (unfortunately).

Your friend wouldn't know who reported him, he could at best only guess. If the reporter boasted about using alts to report your friend (which would be evidence in itself) then there's no way of knowing if that's true, or any way of knowing if that person even abuse reported at all.

If a griefer provoked you into orbitting him and then went on to AR you for it, then for better or worse you did just do something that could get you suspended or warned, yet most people will still say "I didn't do anything wrong".

Only your friend knows what he/she did and did not do, and only LL has any information on who actually did report. Do encourage him/her to follow up on it to get to the bottom of it, but the outside world can't really judge what happened regardless of what anyone claims, there's no way to verify it.

I was under the impression that LL doesn't give details like how many AR's they've gotten about you, even if they take some kind of action against you. Apparently, my impression was mistaken.

Without details and only hearing one side of the story, it's hard for an outsider to really know what occurred. That makes me not want to judge but I have to look at your friends story with skepticism. I'm consistently amazed at how lenient LL tends to be with 1 and 3 day suspensions for things that I would likely have banned people for.

I can also put you at ease regarding ArchTx agreeing that everything LL does is right. You obviously don't read the forums much, or at least his posts. Apparently he just calls them as he sees them.

I shot Leo Linden at the conceirge party then cut him up with a chainsaw :)
Hmm, I avoidied using all my alts to AR, because I'm too, nice, lazy and didn't tthink it would help. I may have to reconsider.
Anyone write a script that pays campers to AR for you? :)

Because that's standard industry practice in any customer service which deals with online.

If one person reports then it can been seen as interpersonal.

If more than one reports then it is seen as causing wider offence and/or disturbance which affects the enjoyment of the site for others, in a more meaningful way.

There should be a filter at LL to count ARs by alts as ONE COMPLAINT aka it should only be unique complaints not total. Otherwise, it's simply somone being able to persecute someone else if they can send loads of alts to AR. That should also be a bannable offence in my opinion.

Weren't me. I'm small potatoes these days, no Concierge parties for me any more!

I keep getting told of for ARing Lindens. For some reason they don't agree with me that being a Linden is a AR offence.
