Well, I was trying to figure out how to go back from that new body type you get in the beginner place to my old one and I couldn't figure it out, so I tried removing my HUD because for some reason I thought that might fix it. My newbie tips disappeared and I can't get them showing again. Please tell me step by step how to get the tips to appear again (perhaps by re-equipping the HUD, I looked through a lot of lists, but I didn't see it anywhere.) Sorry if this has been asked before, but I tried the help sites and all they said were more complicated things like editing the HUD (I think.) Thanks in advance.

What exactly do you mean by HUD ? By 'newbie tips' do you mean a notecard whit information for newbies ?

It was something that was attached to my avatar in the upper left I think. I right clicked my avatar and edit: took it off. For the tips I mean the tips that say about operating a vehicle and finding the building or putting on the armor. That whole menu disappeared on me when I removed whatever this was from my av. (I thought it was a HUD, I could be mistaken though.)

I think brand new residents now get a HUD that helps them through Orientation. Don't know if it's the same HUD for the different flavors of Orientation (or if the alternate Orientations even exist anymore).
Here's what I'd try: open Inventory from the bottom right corner of the screen (or if there's no Inventory button there, just type Control-I). At the top of the Inventory window there will be a field labeled "Type here to search"--try typing "HUD" there, and see if something promising shows up. If it does, right click on it and choose "Wear".
If it doesn't appear in Inventory, I suppose it's possible that these things "self-destruct." Then... hmmm... not sure what to suggest in that case.

I'm not sure which HUD you are talking about (there are many different kinds, some freebies - some you can buy), but whatever you detach you will be able to find in your inventory. Once you find it, right-click it and 'wear' it. You can also drag the item from your inventory to yourself (avatar) and it will be worn automatically. Are you by any chance still in the 'Welcoming Area'? i.e. Have you just arrived in SL? If you are, there should be people around there to help you out... Oh, and Welcome to the forums

Thanks for the help guys, I took another look under female shape and outfit and tried the item orientation guide and attached it to HUD and it worked. I guess it wasn't really a HUD but something you attach to the HUD, sorry for the confusion. Yes, i'm still in the newbie area, but am looking forward to the game once I figure out some basic stuff. Thanks for the welcomes too.

If and when you decide you've learned enough of the basic stuff and want to leave orientation island, look for a billboard that says "Need Help? Visit Help Island" (left of the purple station?). Click the billboard and it will give you a landmark - teleport by clicking it and you will be able to go anywhere in SL using the Map or Search.
Have fun! See you inworld...
