Hi,
for a project, I need to be able to display some clothing on a static mannequin.
Is there somewhere I can buy such a thing? Or do I need to build one or is there any other way of doing this?

If I understand correctly, you have in-world clothing you want to demonstrate? Clothing cannot be put on an object, only worn by an avatar. I'd recommend making an alt, an extra account and log them in which you have control over.

Don't think I've ever seen one - and not sure it's possible for anything other than an AV to 'wear' clothes. Might be wrong though.
I'd have thought the best way would be to create an alt then just have it in a static pose. You can then craft the alt to look exactly the way you want. EDIT: bum. Beaten to it. |

Thanks for those replies. I can understand the issue with an object not 'wearing' clothes as such, but surely if I had a mannequin that looked like an avatar i could just rez the clothes around it?
The problems with using an alt are firstly I'd have to have it logged on permanently which I can't guarantee and secondly people are going to click on it and be given a copy of the clothes which I don't think an unattended alt could do. _____________________

Other idea: take a picture of yourself wearing the clothes, make a cut-out image and stick that on a prim.
Would only be a flat image, unless you make it with multiple flat prims of course. ETA: you could then also set the contents for sale so people clicking on it would get their outfit, if that's the general idea. ![]() _____________________

...but surely if I had a mannequin that looked like an avatar i could just rez the clothes around it? Problem is you can't rez clothes as such. Prim items yes... a prim skirt you could for example. But not the usual 'layer' clothes - shirts, jackets, pants etc. |

Ok thanks for that. These clothes would probably be prim items.
I did consider the cut out photo, but they usually look so bad. _____________________

Ah gotchya. Well it wouldn't be too difficult to create a mannequin like this:
http://michelemiller.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/mannequin_jpeg.jpg Then hang your prim clothes off it. /me sees a potential new marketable product |

Edit: actually if you search the SLExchange for mannequin, you get loads of hits. Not going to list them all here ....

Bilbo's suggestion of a bot is the most sensible one. Put an AO on the bot alt with several poses, that way customers can see what the clothes look like when the avatar moves too. It is possible to run multiple copies of SL at the same time too.

Yes, thanks for that, I understand about an alt, but as I said, i can't guarantee that the computer will be switched on when I'm not there, and people need to be able to click and be given a copy of the clothing. I think one of the mannequins from SLX will be the best solution. _____________________

I think one of the mannequins from SLX will be the best solution. Only just saw your second post. No answer for the point about the computer not being on I'm afraid, but the issue of having people click on it and get a copy of the clothes is atleast easily solved. Put a transparent prim dome over where the alt stands, drop the clothes into the dome like you would a vendor and then the transparent dome becomes a vendor. Perhaps use the mannequin when not online and an alt when you can get online - the alt bot is still the best solution, so make the most of it for the time you can be online. _____________________

Cheers, I'll see about that then, it's actually only for a short time and they'll be freebies during the event.

It CAN be done because they have such a thing at Nonna Hedges and Vindi just to name a couple of examples.
If you go to Nonna Hedges, check out the mannequin there and go to the creator's store. They are probably your best bet. I am trying the same thing but 1. like to figure out how to make things on my own and 2. trying to keep cost down. The best I was able to do (because I got the skirt on just fine) was to put the top on a cylinder (textured with clear) but the result looked awful. What I would imagine needs to be done is the mannequin itself is textured, but all the ones I've seen appear to be sculptie which is above my skill level. ![]() Good luck! |

There is a sculptie mannequin available. It comes textured with the clothing templates and you drop your clothing textures on the appropriate pieces and it will display them as if it were an avatar. Unfortunately, I can't get inworld right now to check the maker, but if you search for mannequin under classifieds inworld, it will come up with a picture of the product in the description.
