odd question - but you know when you load sl and for the 30 seconds or so while the bar travels across the screen putting you inworld there's a random static picture of a your avi sometime ago in a location you were previously at? What controls that image? Is there anyway to update it? My start up screen still shows me ages ago in a location I don't frequent anymore, wearing crap clothes. Is there any special way to log off, thereby updating this? It doesn't seem to relate to anything I am wearing or location I am at nowadays, either pre logging off and/or starting up. Once the bar has loaded I always materialise at my home. Thanks - I am sure there's some bright spark out there who knows the answer.

It's the snap of your home, when you set it as your home, or of the the last place you were at as you logged out. I suspect you are logging in at your home location. To change the picture, set your home location again.

Depends how you have it set to log in. Sounds like you have it set to "My Home" - which will show the image that was taken at the moment you set your home location. If you set it to log in at your last location, it will show the last view you had just before logging out.
If it's the former - set a new home and it should (in theory - it could be broken, I dunno) show the new screengrab.

ah ok......well i usually reset the home location every session, depending what's going on in the home location i.e. I don't want to reappear next time in the gf's newly erected dog kennel. However I still see the back of my avi parked up against a wall, which I probably quit at ages ago, wearing rubbish clothes...............prefer to re-rezz at home ,ather than my last location, so will try and reset later in the manner sggested thanks anyway guys....

On a Windows machine you can find this directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Windows ID>\Application Data\<name_of_viewer>\<name_of_avatar>
For example, mine is something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\SecondLife\carlcorey_colman
Therein are two image files: screen_last.bmp and screen_home.bmp. When I want to change my "home" image I just pose nice, log off and then go copy screen_last.bmp over screen_home.bmp.

Further to CarlCorey's post above, on a Vista machine you'll find it at:
C:\Users\<Your Windows ID>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\<Name of Avatar>
Note: The AppData folder is a hidden one; you may have to enable View Hidden Files and Folders in order to see it.

From: Skell Dagger on a Vista machine Good point. I'm an XP Luddite and my example applies to that OS.

when i had a home i sl . i had it set to home. and always got the same viewer when i started up.. now that i got rid of my land that i rented, i set it to my last location and where ever i log off at . this is the picture i will get when i relog.. now....... if i crash. and log back in . it will show the picture of the last time i logged off successfully. if i crash again. i still see the same picture as two times ago.. until i successfully log off on my own. it will change the picture. of where i last was but when i had it set to home... i always got the same picture
