Today i had someone come to my sim and let me know they had several people who wanted to rent there. Nice! then they proceeded to mention a 10 percent fee. When i questioned what they were talking about they said they were bringing people to me so wanted a 10 percent finder's fee. Ummmm.....well...we dont do that currently. When pressed for more details, this person acted like they were doing me the biggest favor and that they deserved this fee as well as discounts for the renters. I explained that we dont currently do that but if they wanted to put a proposal on a notecard with all the details for me to consider i would. They were very offended by this and said, well then i would lose these renters. This person was also one day old with a totally blank profile but a totally tricked out fantasy av. So i asked if they were an alt...they acted like this was an unknown term. Then they told me this....."perm rez bomb went off in Zeeburg...A linden server one sim and about 500 avs were wiped" Is there such a thing as a perm rez bomb?

The more i pressed to have a written proposal and then told them that i only deal with written contracts...the more they decided to leave and take these unknown renters with them. So, is this some kind of new scam? Anyone else have anyone just popping in as a rental broker and demanding a cut??? It was just really really weird and im wondering if this is something others have encountered. thanks!

Ban them from the region, although it sounds like they'd be back with a new alt. It's not a very professional way to go about a proposal and I doubt they'd want 10%, they'd want a fee upfront and then they'd be gone.

Definitely sounds like a scam - ignore them and if they return, put them on your mute list and ban them from your property.

Whether or not there is anything CALLED a "perm rez bomb", I have no clue, but avs cannot really be killed in SL.

Haven't come across this myself, although I think someone approached Fatima with a similar deal some time ago... after she stopped laughing her butt off she waved them bye bye and eventually booted their arse when they refused to take the hint. Personally I wouldn't deal with any intermediaries - what's the point when people can come to the sim and deal with us directly? As for a "rez bomb" and its effects - no personal knowledge but I would guess it's either a total bluff or, if real, something the Lindens would probably ban an avatar for.

Personally, I think I would have said, "when all 10 are settled in and rent paid for a minimum of two weeks, THEN I will pay you a 10% finders fee, but not before then".

Shows good faith, is ok for business, if they were legit. If that wasn't good enough...BAN :)

Sounds like a scam to me, any reputable business person would not hesitate to put an agreement in writing. The business model, helping land owners find tenants, sounds like a reasonable idea but only if performed in a professional manner. I certainly would not consider paying them any money until after he delivered the customers and they had paid you.

Wonder if it's one of those wonderful self-replicating items that hit the grey goo barrier and stop working? Hadn't seen one of those in action in a while.. of course, I haven't been to any of the Linden sandboxes either...

But, yes, this sounds very much like a scam, since the person refused to carry on in a professional manner.

Then they told me this....."perm rez bomb went off in Zeeburg...A linden server one sim and about 500 avs were wiped" Is there such a thing as a perm rez bomb?
Zeeburg is a suburb of RL Amsterdam. In All Search, there is precisely one reference to Zeeburg ... a photo of the place for sale in a shop! So, there is and has evidently never been an SL "Zeeburg".

Perhaps s/he meant to say "prim rez bomb", a minor griefing object?

How one AV proposes to "wipe" ONE other av, let along 500, would be interesting to hear, indeed! *laughs*

You could take down a sim with a sufficiently massive physics-enabled prim rez 'bomb', but honestly, it's a lot more time-consuming with Havok4 than it used to be. And it would have absolutely no effect on the server hosting the sim, or any other server for that matter.

Your visitor is a flake, ban/mute and ignore forever :)

LOL, this sounds sooooo badly like the "Official SL Police" and "SL Security Company" we used to have (I might have their names a bit wrong, but some older people will know what I'm talking about). Those were basically a bunch of random types, offering "security" to clubs and such. For a fee, of course. And you'd have to give them banning/kicking permissions on your land.
The few times I heard about clubs falling for it, all ended with dancers/escorts being forced to give freebies or being kicked/banned. Good thing that most clubs, at least the good ones, are owned by working girls themselves these days. :)

Something similar already exists - a while back when I was doing rentals I had someone come to me who was a rental agent (or whatever you'd call it) - but she didn't charge the fee to *me*, she charged it to the tenants.

They gave her a list of requirements and she went hunting round the grid for places that would meet those.

She was a nice professional lady; not sure how the business went but to me that seems a more sensible business model.

It can be quite difficult finding a good rental. I mean the search in SL is not that great. Every rental owner is looking out for themselves but they won't be able to tell you about any one else. It would be nice to just go up to a rental agent who could find exactly what you need. Heck it would be great to have this type of service for any product in SL. I don't how difficult that would be to start and maintain such a service for rentals.

high pressure and balks at a contract = scammer. The bomb thing sounds like some "leet" kiddie thinking he's got the mad-scare-tactic-skillz. AR him for being on the adult grid. :D
