How to find out where the a SIM is stored. Is it on a new server version, or the older?

Mainland or estate? The last two continents of mainland, Corsica and Nautilus are on Class 5 servers.

@Raymond Figtree / good question. Some told me the mainland is mostly stored on older servers (c3) but those are connected over a stong powerful raid system.
However: Its there a tool, a way to find this out? I am looking for new Openspace Sims (3750prims) and exploring them. Some seems a bit laggy, some less. Some told me Openspace are never stored on class 5, others told me all new SIMs are only stored on brand new fast servers. What the hell ![]() How to check this out without asking the owner? |

from http://www.zonkster.com/slackstips.htm:
In the Client Menu* Help>About Secondlife: you'll see something like "simXXXX.agni.lindenlab.com". A value of below 2150 for XXXX is normally Class 4, a value above 2150 is most likely a Class 5 server. *I assume this is still true for the Advanced menu. |

Interesting!
So with a class 5, what other kinds of things should we be looking at when considering land for handling a music venue, shops, traffic, etc.. I read about the FPS, under stats, but every place I go to has it really really low, at the top... the sim FPS is always arond 45 which is good. But what else tells me if a place lags, or if it will be able to handle a full house evenutally? |

Some told me Openspace are never stored on class 5, others told me all new SIMs are only stored on brand new fast servers. All new SIMs come on class 5 servers, no matter if full or low prim. |

All new SIMs come on class 5 servers, no matter if full or low prim. Yep. That's been true since around the end of 2006, too. |

The only way to really know is to contact a Linden on live chat or by submitting a ticket/calling support. No one knows the real cut-off number (as mentioned in Miles' post) for when they started becoming class 5s. You used to be able to figure it out by doing tracert on the sim name, but that stopped being reliable some time last year.
All new openspaces are on class 5 servers, but their performance is a little bit less than 1/4 of a full sim for a variety of reasons. _____________________

With all the IP reordering they've done over the last year, think there's been at least two rounds of it, I'm not sure that looking at the simXXXX.agni.lindenlab.com number works any more.
edit: an in-world friend tells me that my home sim, which is definitely on a class 4 server, has a number over 3500.. |

edit: an in-world friend tells me that my home sim, which is definitely on a class 4 server, has a number over 3500.. Class 4 sim owners now have the ability to upgrade to class 5. I doubt they change the sim number when that happens, so maybe they're not recycling numbers, just upgrading old servers. Further evidence that there is no reliable way for an end-user to know what class a sim is. I think all pre-class-4 servers mainland servers are class 5 now, too. _____________________

Yep, all the old class 3 servers went away a while ago. I have no idea if LL replaced them with class 4 or class 5 servers, though.
My home is on a mainland sim, created June 2006 so it was a new class 4 at the time. I'm pretty certain that LL didn't upgrade us to a class 5, though I would not object if they did. Not at all. Really. Feel free, Jack. Please? |
