I followed some advice given here for weaker processors running the latest RC. The advice was to use your video software (Catalyst Control Center at present) to set your performance levels to Performance as opposed to Quality. Now my water and sky are solarized. I bet I know of at least one person that would think they are cool looking but I'd prefer to have them look a bit more normal. Anyone know what specifically causes this? What the minimal change one could could make to solve this problem? Obviously I could change things back like they were but I'm hoping to get some speed improvement if possible. I seem to remember having gone through this before and I just set things back up to quality. With the latest RC it might be nice to solve the problem a bit better.

Looks like a reduction in the number of colors.

Yeah, I think I meant to say posterized instead solarized.
It is a reduction in the number of colors.

No, the questions I asked were attempts to find either a specific setting to change in the Second Life graphics settings to solve this problem, or a sprecific setting in the video card options that are affected when you move the Catalyst Control Center slider from balanced or quality down to Performance that can be changed and solve the reduced colors problem without just moving the slider back to quality and thereby losing the fps boost reported in the advice I was following. I knew it was reduced colors in the water and sky rendering. My awareness of the reduced colors in the sky and water rendering is what prompted the question. So no point.

Looks like too much gamma radiation to me. It could make you really angry. Try reducing the gamma setting in SL (somewhere). Quick!!!
