Quicktime question

Hi Quick time seems it is not compatable with windoze 2k so vidieo is no longer avable to me in sl

is there a way around this in SL or does any one know of a link to DL Quicktimes new update that is required for Vid in SL that is compatable Windoze 2k

Well, my first answer would be to say switch to XP, since 2K was never all that great for personal use anyway. But that's probably not what you want to hear, so I won't say it.

If you really want to, you could grab the SL source code, find the spot with the QT version requirement, change it, and then compile your own viewer. But unless you're a programmer, you probably don't want to do that either.

So, until and unless Apple updates QT for Win2K, you're probably out of luck. And I wouldn't suggest you hold your breath waiting on that.

The important thing to keep in mind, as frustrating as it may be in your particular situation, is that the QT version requirement is a good thing. All versions of QT below 7.4 have a tremendous, gaping security hole in them, which can allow an outside user complete control over your computer. They can do anything from steal your Linden Dollars while you watch to erase your entire hard drive, all because you felt like watching a movie.

But hey, "it just works," right? (Sorry, couldn't help the Apple slam there. They deserve it.)

Of course, you're probably gonna say "Well, I don't have it set to play movies automatically, precisely for that reason. I just want to view the occasional movie in SL from sites I trust implicitly, and I'll NEVER play one from a stranger." In that case, as I said, you're probably out of luck. Sorry.

Just how often do you watch videos in SL? When the initial security hole was announced I remeved QT from my main computer. I don't think I ever used it anyway.
