Can someone please tell me what the appeal is of low prim land? I've been looking for a commercial/residential land to rent and have seen ads for low prim land. 65k sqm with 1875 prims. Where is the appeal to that? I mean if I had my own sim..I would want all the prims available to me.

Sounds like open sim. They get them in groups of 4 for price of 1. The catch is less prims.

Yes, purchasing low prims Sims you get 4 sims for the price of one. In fact, if I understand correctly, they can only be bought in blocks of four. The primary purpose of them is to connect them to a developed sim. The developer can promote open water or open land for the residents to use.

The appeal is distance. You get a whole sim for yourself, and the prim amount of a 8000m2 parcel, which is more than enough for a huge house or an average business. If privacy is your thing, that's the only way you will be able to keep your neighbors 130mts away in any direction without having to pay $300/month for a regular sim. It also let's use have your own huge backyard or even a small forest if you choose so.

He's talking about renting one. Not ordering one.

Hi Lucian,

It might pay you to read this thread, in particular a post by Rhaorth Antonelli has a pretty good rundown on this type of land...

I have just leased out some low prim sims to people from all walks of life. One to a skilled low prim builder - another leased as a private honeymoon get-away for a month - another to a combat gamer needing lots of space. The part which appeals to me the most - is the freedom to create terrains on a large scale and to test and tweak .RAW files (uploadable terrain). While some people understandably want to play with lots of prims - personally I feel happiest when I have a huge blank canvas of land to pull and push into whatever shape I wish.

1875 prims and all that land - Distance set to 512 m - my heaven :)

The trick is to find a cool estate owner willing to give you Estate manager status so you can debug the sim and keep the scripts and lag in check. I believe there are up to 16 low prim sims loaded onto one single server box at any given time and the cumulative affect of too many resources being used by all of them can cause a slow down of the server (as a whole). This was probably more apparent when the servers were class 3 or 4. I have not personally had any unsolvable problems caused by this. Try to find a new class 5 openspace (low prim) sim if you are considering.

We all have different standards and budgets but I consider 100USD per month to lease/rent a low prim sim a good price - particularly if you can share this between 2 to 4 other people.

Only this week I was quoted $20,000L / month tier, with no upfront payment.

Sim owner is most trustworthy, and in fact is listed as a "reputable estate owner" on both posts #7 & #16 of this thread (as well as other places in these forums): /327/a9/214988/1.html

Is also my Sim Owner for 10/11 months now and am most happy, and would think twice before renting off of someone else...

Yes, I've heard there is a very marked difference between class 4 open space sims and class 5s, unlike with regular land.

The only downside I can see to giving somebody estate manager status is that I believe all 4 open space sims are in the same estate (correct me if I'm wrong!), so people renting other sims in the estate could (perhaps inadvertantly) cause problems.

The idea of a cheap proving ground for terrain is quite appealing...

I pay the equivalent of USD 100 in L$.

And the appeal is mainly space: You have a whole sim for yourself. This gives you great views ... much nicer than most places on the mainland. Check out my home sim, Rasa Aragonesa, if you want to know what I mean.

Sure, it's a bit of a luxury, but, as usual in SL and RL alike, a matter of whether the result is worth the expense for you.

I've developed several low-prim sims that one of my clients rents from a sim owner. She rents one normal sim plus FIVE of the low-prim sims, and now has a positively HUGE amount of space to play in. Four of her five low-prim sims I terraformed together with the full-prim sim to make a single 5-sim island. The remaining low-prim sim was added later as an offshore island. The only problem she has had was when the original sim owner sold her sims to a new owner. There were some... misunderstandings... but all got worked out amicably in the end. As with any rental, there is always the possibility that you may get a change of landlords, with little or no notice.

As others already stated, if you rent one low-prim sim, you get the prim count of an 8K parcel, but the land area of a full sim. You can also TAKE IT OFF THE MAP, making access not Public, just like the owners of a full sim can, but at 1/4 the maintenance cost. So a rented low-prim sim is the least expensive true privacy possible in SL.

The down side is that there is no way to increase your prim count beyond the 1875 prims that are allowed for a low-prim sim, and the normal settings only allow 10 avatars in a low-prim sim at a time. The low prim sims also seem to take longer to initially rez properly for your client, when you first arrive there. (Mostly only noticable if you have a very slow computer).
