Effect looking for a name

This is a social effect, not a sploder or something daft like that. The effect I am thinking of is "men who play as women and then put down men". I agree, at first sight this looks abstruse and pointless, but I wouldn't ask if I didn't come across it astonishingly often. It's not "Gender Dysphoria" and it's not "Virtual Henpecker" (though on reflection I quite like that one). We humans have terms for social phenomena we dislike, from "Uncle Tom" to "quisling" to "backseat driver" to fag hag"...

I think there should be a name for men whose self-image and social position is such that they not only play female, but take advantage of that gap to diss people who are, in reality, their fellow man. Thing is, I can't think up an easy portmanteau term for 'em. Suggestions!

We should also have a name for people who *claim* to be their real selves and then start slagging everyone else off because they assume we are all imposters!

I think we already have terms for that. "Bigot" and "Hypocrite"

hahahaha! i can't make up my mind as to whether they are being quite clever, sly or cowardly. Maybe 'Custards' would cover it all, you know - something that makes a tough pudding go down well while being totally insubstantial itself.

Well I am pretty sure you all are different you pretend to be.
The gays are in fact as straight as they come, the girls are all beer bellied sweaty bald men, and the muscled men are all teethless grannies in RL. The only ones I believe for what they are, are furries.

Of course I am exactly who I play in SL. Well maybe some prettier in RL, and a lot nicer as well.

But, from the OP on, everyone seems to have taken the position that this person is a quisling, a traitor to his sex, and to be pitied for hiding behind the women's skirts while he takes potshots at his erstwhile colleagues.

Let me take up the poor fellow's/girl's cause. We have here a person who is playing (and may feel in her own mind that she IS) female. We gals often have things to say about you guys...wonderful as you are, you're pretty exasperating sometimes, too. So...if the person is in female mode, why shouldn't she share those attitudes?

Because it's not based on any real life experience as you may have experienced it as a woman. It maybe self guilt or an observance of his own gender's failings in certain respects but it cannot be the same as yours or other females' experiences of men.

I can't think of a good name for the behaviour described, but it strikes me as another example of the way that some men who try to pass as women (rl transvestites as well as sl) will totally overdo what they perceive as feminine behaviour. Not only will the shape, clothes and makeup all be way too over the top to seem realistic, but IMO they often ham it up in conversation as well. Perhaps they feel that women generally do tend to whinge about men, so they try and emphasise it and end up overdoing that too. The effect can be a little bit pantomime dame.

I had a friend some months back who invented a female avatar. It was really odd to see his version of what a girl would act like. She was either yelling at people or giggling incessantly and using the word "hun" (as in "Sure thing, hun *giggle*" Made me really wonder how men see women in general.

Well, that's quite specific rather than general - I expect (s)he was a bit too much of a Desperate Housewives fan - the show where straight women get to read out a script written by, and for, gay men...

I'd like to understand how their mental processes work while doing this: whether it is campiness, or that it's just "playing the character" - or there's a thread of strong self-loathing about themselves. Kind of a strange way for that to emerge, though.

I LOVE that one! But its connotations take it beyond just the specific behavior (dissing the guys) that we're talking about. The word, to me, implies a male person who is consciously playing a female role (either well or poorly). I also think that the person it describes is not your classic transgendered person...who is NOT playing a role, but is actually "being herself", taking OFF her RL role.

Thesbian. A marvelous word. Alyx, please write this one down!
