Okay here's a basic question I've been putting off asking because it's just so embarrassing that I don't know... How exactly does an IM work..every time I try to send one the system asks me to send an invitation to that person of friendship. I was trying to send an IM to a vehicle manufacturer today requesting details of a car but it seems to ask this formal question in IM form he has to be on my friends list. Loads of people have sent me IM's and I'm darned sure I'm not on their friendship list any more than they are on mine (which consists of three..two of which I don't actually know). This has been driving me nuts for weeks now..can someone put me out of my misery..? Perre

Hmm ... that certainly isn't the way it's supposed to work. Can you tell us step by step how you do it?
When other people IM you, can you reply?

If you are within sight of who you are wanting to IM just right click on their avi (or name) and from the pie menu choose "send IM"........that will open an IM chat box to type your message in.
The other way is to search for the person using the somewhat borked "search " on the UI. Then click on the correct name to bring up his/her profile. There a button on the bottome of the profile box to "send IM".......that will also open an IM chat box for you.
