Hey guys.
I waas standing in a world when I noticed a SLIGHT hint of what seems to be a shadow off of my avitar. I don't see it all the time, just sometimes like when the sun is setting....
Does any one else see it. It's like I can see a SMALL bit of a shadow of his legs while standing, but nothing else. Could this be part of their tests.... any knews with the physics engine or anything on that. What can I do or play with to test it out a bit more?

All avatars have a very crude "foot shadow". It's not particularly representative of the avatar's shape or height, and only barely responsive to sun direction. It's there primarily as a visual cue for where your feet are in relation to the ground's surface.

Oh.. I see....
Man I hope they're coming along with dyname shadows.
Active World has shadows..... sorta.... I just can't wait to see SL with dynamic shadows.... You know I'll be one of the first to have that viewer when it's released.

There's a prototype for real-time realistic shadows in the works already. You have to be on the Windows version of the Release Candidate, and you can only make it work with a limited set of very high-end video cards. Torley did a video recently that showed off the new capability. But so far it won't work on most of the operating systems and video cards that SL residents have.

I've run the shadows client. It was definitely a load for my little 8600GT cards, but it was just tolerable enough to get some screenshots. If I remember, I'll post them later. (^_^)y

From: Imnotgoing Sideways It was definitely a load for my little 8600GT cards Maybe I'm still too used to the FPS I used to get . I get about 10-20fps on the shadow draft viewer with my 8600GT which should be more than just tolerable really .

I got MSI cheapos. (=_=) NEWay.... On to the screenshots. (^_^) This is the shadow of the NCI builder's grid skybox over the freebie wall. (^_^) I rezzed a torus and coiled it to see how that kind of shadow would work out. (^_^)
