I have a problem with dividing some land that I hope someone can help with. I will try and explain as simply as I can. Imagine if you will a large square of land, which I am basically trying to divide into 4 smaller squares. Simple enough. However, the top right hand corner square, and the bottom left hand corner square (the opposite corners) seem to remain joined together, despite the property lines showing two separate parcels. I have divided the parcel into 4 separate plots. When you click on about land, I get 2 1024 squares and 1 big 2048 squares. I have tried dividing off a 16m line around the edge of each square, so they are not touching, but still they remain "joined", in that when you click on about land on either plot, both plots are outlined in yellow. I tried to take a photo to illustrate, but the yellow lines didn't show up. This is driving me nuts, as when I change the settings for 1 plot, they change on the other one as well. Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks Jen

One possible explanation is that you divided the land by cutting two diagonally opposite 1024s. That would give you 2x1024 and 1x2048 Clicking on either of the 'two squares' that make up the 2048 would indeed show yellow lines as if you had 4 squares.
To make 4 squares out of a larger plot, you would have to cut *three* 1024s out of the larger plot.
Just a guess...

I think that Sling might be right.
Dividing land on SL is a bit strange. It doesn't work like cutting cake: when you split off a parcel, all you do is to mark that particular area of land as being part of another parcel. Although the "property lines view" might make it _look_ like there is a "cut" across the land at the division point (which could thus be involved in separating parcels other than the one you issued the divide command for), there isn't really.
As an example, you can have a 16m by 16m block of land, and "divide" a 4m by 16m block straight down the middle, yet the two sides will still remain connected as a single parcel with a hole in the middle.
A better way to think about it is that there's a little invisible flag on each 4x4 square of land saying which parcel it's part of, and when you divide an area of land, you change all the flags on the area you divided - but not anywhere else. (That's how the system actually works.)
So yes - if you've tried to divide a 1024 into 4 squares by doing only two divide operations, you will get this effect, because the division lines don't "cut" the parcel. As Sling said, you need to do three divide commands.

Thanks guys, I'll go back and have another go. I was getting a little frustrated, but think I actually went round and divided the 4 plots separately - I've made 8 in total from one big piece and all the others are OK.
I might just join it all back up together and start again!
