Have the clouds changed in the non-Windlight viewers lately?

When looking straight up and rotating the clouds are looking weird.

This may be a perceptual malfunction on my part, noticing something as if it was new when it has actually been that way all along.

I don't guess I actually look straight up at the sky and pivot all that often.

I notice this effect in other virtual worlds more often.

I noticed that too. I have a hideaway in the clouds. Since the latest server change rendering those clouds is using up lots of FPS.

For me this is with WL and 1.18.4. 1.19 and my system don't jell yet.

p.s. Aliester, I love your quote. If it did happen, hopefully no dentatas were involved

Old-style clouds are just really big particles.

If you look at a sun-beam from the side, all the rays pretty much line up. If you look directly towards the sun up that sunbeam then the lines splay out in all directions.

Or, probably a better explanation: If particles were compasses, "UP" would be their north pole. If you look straight up, they act like a compass at the north pole would, slight movements would cause pretty extreme shifts in orientation. =)

As far as I know it's always been that way with the old clouds, but you might be seeing something I haven't yet, (I stick to windlight as much as possible. =)

I notice it in Hipihi a lot.

This could easily be psychological. I've spent thousands of hours in Second Life, I may have noticed the weird cloud effect years ago and forgotten about it. After all the time I've spent in SL I may not be seeing SL in a very alert manner.

I'll look at the clouds in Novoking next time I fire it up. I wish I could find someone there besides me.

I was thinking that LL might be changing the way clouds are done in preparation for mainstreaming windlight. Pure speculation on my part.

I logged in about a week ago and asked a friend, "What is wrong with the sky?" and he wrote back "You are on crack." It looked very bleak, like ... too white. I set to noon, and then set back to region default again, and it was back to normal: blue sky and normal clouds.

Well, I did see one that looked like a horse last week, but then the next day I saw one that looked like a squid or an octopus. Course it could have been because I spent too much time reading the thread on Mari's neighbors. :D
