Does LL have any official plans to update the text editor that we currently have in game to edit notecards and do our LSL coding? I heard this rumor that they might be integrating another open-source project into the SL client, namely OpenOffice.org. Somehow I think that might be overkill and will severly degrade performance of SL in general.

I heard a rumour that there's another thread especially for groundless rumours like this.

Really up to the open source development community (SLDEV). At this stage they are more interested in stabilizing the client and rationalize its features, rather than develop new ones.
Have you noticed how they have already changed the permission screen for allowing objects to give out their hard won lindens? This would be half way between a new feature and fixing an existing one.

No need really
I use an offline text editor for all my note card and scripts then cut and paste into SL.
I have lost too much work to crashes, ect, not to.
Besides it has spell check and a most bestest grammar checker and stuff.
