ah nice, so it is something in the process or soon to be, thanks
The current version of Secondlife.exe is 1.22.
The version being worked on right now, is Secondlife.exe 1.23. It just entered "Release Candidate, Iteration 1. (1.23.RC1). This is the so-called "Public Beta" process, and the software will not be "officially released" until that point.
Avatar Alpha is planned "soon" but has not, as yet, been introduced to 1.23.RC1. Linden Lab is hoping to press 1.23 into release by the end of June (1.23 will contain the client-side portions of their Adult Content changes). Therefore, if LL does not add the feature to 1.23 during the RC process, they will probably add it to the next one, or the one after that.
Taking this into account:
July 1-ish, ready or not, 1.23 will go to official release status. This will probably be a "Mandatory Update" as well, to avoid uneven application of their Adult Content policies.
A few days after that, 1.24 will probably begin alpha development, through the "Public Nightly" releases. When the package of features is considered ready, 1.24 will probably enter the RC public beta process. (they do not always run an RC, just like they do not always run a "First Look" build.)
Judging by past history, a month or 3 down the road from there, the RC will likely enter official release. So, you could sort of guesstimate it like this..
July 1: release of 1.23
August 1: 1.24 RC0 becomes available
October 1: 1.24 becomes official client.
(these are totally just guesses)
Of course, there's no guarantee that the specific feature you're interested in WILL make it into 1.24 either. It could be held off til later, or it might even be possible that the feature won't work, and might be abandoned. (dynamic reflections went that way).
The one thing in 1.24's favour, is that because of the adult content things, 1.23 will be pushed into release even if it's not 100%. So 1.24 will probably be loaded with fixes for things.
