Stolen Skins

My sister busted a shop selling stolen RAC skins today. She gave the info to Mallory and also ar'd the site. Mallory gave her a hearty thank you as a reward.

My sister lives a vagabond sl existence. She does Free Dove and other freebies, sets home to NCI and camps a bit for extra $L at a place I will not name, but is run by one of the sweetest ladies in the metaverse. I pay her a bit from time to time when she helps me with my property rental biz.

Now she is upset because she is thinking her favorite skin (CS Passport) is stolen goods.

The question is:

Is it ethical to wear the CS skin which seems to be a freebie staple?

If you're referring to the CS Passport Malibu skin, I don't think that Starley ever meant for that skin to be a freebie, but only she would know.

I think she discontinued the entire Passport line over a year ago though so the originals wouldn't be for sale anymore or even in her inventory.

If it really bothers her, she could always IM Starley to ask about the skin and ask if she can pay for it some way.

Thank you Kitty. I don't do Celestial (RAC is my thing) so I welcome the info. I will let her know, but am leaning towards giving her L$ to buy a skin of her choice. Checking my inventory, I also have that skin. Seems to be a widely distributed freeb.

People lately seem to be banding together and not takign whats offered in these places, theres some morals being shown for the hard work of others. I report to the makers when i think i see their work stolen and being sold elsewhere, i also remove it from sale (if its an item ive bought as a reseller for my freebies at the store)

Its really heartening to see this happening more and more, i think as people branch out from newbdomness..and pay for things such as skins and good quality clothing, they understand how irritating it then is to see it being sold for a fraction of the cost (albeit with flaws sometimes) or in some case being sold for FREE.

ya malabu has been a freebie for going on two years now..i think it was something with it when it was released the permissions were messed up and it was spread around..
it's been so long since i heard the story about it that i forget..thats all i remember of it though..
i think everyone has that skin in their inventory ..i know i had it but didn't know when i was using it that it was suposed to be a sale item..
i will say though that it did lead me to the store when it came time for me to do another makeover and love the cs skins and really they are all i buy now just about..

Yes, I am proud of my sister for doing the right thing. Her income is limited, and those discounted RAC's must have beeen tempting.

God knows they tempt me.

I don't think Starley cares much anymore...there's a comment on Natalia's blog to this effect.

Maybe she should donate it to the SL library, then it basically becomes redundant and at the same time will allow female newbies look decent on orientation island and may even encourage more to venture further into SL.

This was a long time ago, but as I remember, the CS Passport skin ended up full perms one day (can't remember if it was a permissions bug or a simple mistake) and started getting passed around. Rather than fight it, Starley just considered that one a freebie and moved on. So, the "CS Passport" skin wasn't originally meant to be a freebie, but it is now, and the creator doesn't have a problem with that.

It's a cute skin, but I must admit that whenever I see someone in it "FREEBIE" is the first thing comes to mind.
