Hey, im haveing a few problems with windlight that no one seems to care to explain how to fix them, first problem is no matter what i do i can never get glow to work my graphics card is a ATI X1600 Radeon Pro PCI express 512mb ive been told that ATI cards need to have a very specific setting for glow to work, anyone care to help with that?

Second problem is, every so often when i click anything dosent matter what it is my screen flashes gren to black and i have yet to figure out why. can someone please help with either of my problem?

Thanks,

"Glow" generally comes with the "Basic Shaders" option, as far as I can tell.[*EDIT BELOW] Are you able to turn on Basic Shaders and still don't see "glow"? Or is it a problem getting basic shaders turned on at all?

(No clue on the "green-to-black" thing, though. This happens only with WindLight?)

Oh, of course, gotta ask: latest drivers?

[*EDIT: Crap. That's how it worked for me on my usual Linux / nVidia setup, but I see on my ancient ATI / XP install that it seems to require Atmospheric Shaders, too, to get "glow." Oh, and I see the flash, I think, but only when I have View / Property Lines turned on.]

[EDIT #2: The flashing color thing seems to be http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3418 if it's what I was seeing, which the WindLight team seems to think is fixed in an upcoming release, along with "glow cleanup"... so maybe all will be well with the next WindLight viewer refresh.

Consult http://jira.secondlife.com/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?mode=hide&requestId=10970 for a list of outstanding WindLight problems.]

ATI X1600 Radeon Pro
That card is flagged as a class 1 card by LL which seems to mean you won't see glow unless you enable atmospheric shaders.

If you want to give it a try, you could edit gpu_table.txt and change the 1 for your card into a 2 and see how SL behaves. If it doesn't behave at all, just change it back to a 1 again.

Since this post is more current, although the linked one is about the same graphics as my ATI xpress 200M, doing all the above didn't show glow to me. (Although I remember seeing RenderGlow and really slow reflections way back when...) I edited the file, I enabled atmospheric shaders (which just makes everything nasty/overcast no matter what), I set glow to 1, I even turned on local lighting, full bright and made my glow prim a light source.

No glow. ;)

They seem to have fixed that "bug" now, so it might be worth it to give the new update a try and see if glow works properly for you now :).
