Hi everyone,
I just bought my first land. It's 2,304 Sq. M, supports 632 prims and is located at 24,232,21.
I want to now buy a house. My question is this: How do I find out the length & width of my land and how to I find my borders? Without knowing these things, how can I know what homes will and won't fit?
Thanks, Sue McCullough

Thanks, Sue McCullough To view the borders, click 'View' at the top of the screen, and then click 'Property Lines'. There are several ways to work out the dimensions of your plot. At the top of your screen, there are three numbers representing the location of your avatar in the x,y,z coordinate system, so you could stand at each corner, note them down, and then do a little maths. Perhaps an easier way is to use land edit. Right-click the land and select 'edit terrain'. Next left-click the land and you will see a yellow selection box on the land. This box is 16m^2, and so has sides of 4m. You could slowly drag (holding down the left mouse button) a selection up the side of each plot edge in turn, counting the number of '4m' selections it takes.

Thanks, Sue McCullough Sue, congratulations on getting your first land. To see the property lines go to the view menu and turn on view property lines. Colored lines will appear on the ground. The numbers you listed 24,232,21 are the X,Y,Z coordinates of the location where you were probably standing when you took note of them. X is measured from the West edge of the sim Y is meassured from the South edge of the sim Z is the elevation or height of the ground To get the dimensions of your land stand at the East edge and note the X coordinate, then walk to the West property line and note that coordinate, subract the two and you have the East West dimension. Do the same thing at the North and then the South property lines and you will have the North South dimension. Have fun with your new land.

Hi Sue. Congratulations on your new land!
One thing you might want to keep in mind is that in SL prim count is as important as physical size. I would suggest looking around at furniture and landscaping items before you select your house so that you have some idea what the prim counts of the type furnishings you want will be. If you have land on water and you want a dock and a boat, for example, you will want to buy a home that leaves you enough prims to do that. Or, you may decide that you want a house on the ground and a skybox as a more private getaway and it is nice to have the prims to do that. I know the first house I bought was large and lovely, but I soon discovered there was no way I could furnish it and arrange my land the way I wanted within my limited prim count (I started with a very small parcel).
Good Luck and have fun!

Well, my land has water on 2 sides, so eventually getting a dock and a boat is likely. I'm concidering a nice Japanese house & formal garden. It takes 349 prims. I have 632, so I guess I'll have enough left.
Hmm, any custom house builders/landscapers out there?
