Seems like LL is headed in the right direction with the implementation of this new "Scripted Agent Status" associated with accounts. The plan is to use this in the future to remove the traffic associated with this account from search algorithms and its impact on search rankings.

Sounds like a reasonable plan or will it actually help with the issue of bots and gaming search. Thoughts?

Only if LL can accurately determine them on their own as anyone using bots to specifically game the system will most definitely not go to the website and self-identify themselves as such.

Luckily, they have decided that I am controlled by a human:
Current Status: The avatar associated with this account is identified as being controlled by a human.

That made me el oh el as well.

And yeah, I think this new process will rely on those that play fair and honestly to do so, and for those that don't, LL will rely on the AR process which likely won't help all that much in the short term at least.

It's a good idea, stats regarding how many get flagged will be interesting.

Scripted ... agent man! scripted agent man!
They've given you a number
And taken 'way your name!

(apologies to Johnny Rivers)

Seems like a good idea to me. I asked on the blog if there will be limits on how many scripted agents one account can register. Easy enough to automate bulk registration!

So there's no change then. Firstly it's voluntary, so there's no compelling reason to identify any bots as bots, and secondly they are not going to do anything with it - until "down the line". So, even if some bots are checked as bots, it's not going to make any difference to the traffic. However, since they've done this bit, it may not be too long before they work it into the traffic figures, but "down the line" sounds more like "not in the near future" than "imminent".

Another thing is, what is a "scripted agent"? I have 3 castle bots (castle guards) that are scripted to walk around the sim, so they are obviously scripted agents. I have another one in the castle - a damsel in distress :) - that is on a poseball, waving her handkerchief out of her tower room window, hoping for a knight in shining armout to come by and rescue her. That agent isn't scripted at all. I also have 4 store models that are on poseballs and are, therefore, not scripted. I know that Jack meant to include all of them, but those 5 are definitely not scripted agents.

Jack should have titled the blog: "You're a bot. It's ok. Admit it."

And to P.F. Sloan. I guess you don't believe we're on the eve of bot destruction.
