Hi again,
Quick question. After making an outfit via the appearance box new outfit button, is it possible to add another item to the outfit without starting over? I mean, can I drag and drop an item into the outfit folder? I've tried it, and it doesn't seem to work. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
Thank you very much.

You should just be able to right click anything in your inventory and choose to wear it.
Making an outfit saves a preconfigure of your shape and 'non-prim' clothing (Prim clothing is things you wear on top of your basic avatar - the most blatant examples would be hats and things held in your hands). - But you should simply be able to wear anything and it will change that part of your outfit to what you wear.
If you need help, you can instant message me in world and I can come by and see what you're up to.

Thanks Pussycat. I just became an elf, and I wanted to add my ears to all my favorite outfits. I'll just have to remember to wear my ears when I go out.

Thank you very much. What you say you are doing should work just fine; it's how I manage most of my outfits. I'm at a loss trying to think of a reason why it doesn't for you. Is it the dragging and dropping that isn't working, or is the item you draged and dropped there in the folder but just not appearing when you try to "Add To Outfit"?

Hi Hearttau! The outfit folders are not special. We can put things in any folder and we can wear any folder. It is fine to drag your ears there.

From: Hearttau Edenflower Thanks Pussycat. I just became an elf, and I wanted to add my ears to all my favorite outfits. I'll just have to remember to wear my ears when I go out. I made a folder that I call 'always on' - into it I put all the things I always want to be on my avatar. That includes her ears, tail, teeth, skin, eyes, shape. After any major outfit switch, I right click that folder and select add items. That makes sure nothing ever gets away with removing those items. After you've been around for a while, you'll learn that some items have to be edited to change where they attach - I'm often having to move things off of where my tail fits (stomach) and onto the pelvis. Not doing that would mean everytime I put that outfit on I'd lose the tail, or lose the item that was trying to take its spot. But give yourself a bit of time to get comfortable before taking that kind of challenge on.

If the ears are "no copy" they are probably just moving from folder to folder. I had that happen too when I was just starting out and making outfit folders. If you can copy them, right click and choose "copy" then click on each folder you want to add them to and right click and choose "paste". If they can't be copied, Pussycat's suggestion is the best option and one I use also.

From: Pussycat Catnap I made a folder that I call 'always on' - into it I put all the things I always want to be on my avatar. I do too but I put my av name on it and the word everyday. I also have a folder into which I drag all the folders of clothes for a Victorian sim I used to roleplay on. Eventually I made folders that I dragged other folders into, by category. Open toe shoes with heels. Closed toe shoes with heels. Ankle boots. Etc. Start things with the same word and they will be under each other in inventory if you organise by name (instead of date.) Don't split up outfits too much because you will never find all the pieces again. Just drag the whole folders in. By the way you can right click, choose rename, and can then rename any folder, or landmark, or note card, and most other objects too (unless they are 'no modify.) To sort into new folders, in inventory choose create/new window. Then create/new folder. Rename the folder something like Shoes - Open toe heels Drag all folders of shoes that contain open toe heels in there. etc. You'll thank me later. =P

Thanks everyone. Hmm...It may just be that I'm really bad at dragging and dropping. LOL Clarissa, An everyday elf folder sounds like it will do the trick. I've already made the mistake of having folders inside folders create unintentional but sometimes interesting layered looks. It's nice to know that this technique can work in my favor. I do categorize and alphabetize things but things still seem to move around of their own volition at times. Lets blame that the the roll out, shall we? I have had funiture disappearing to my lost and found folder in the last 24 hours, so I guess that the roll out is causing some havoc.

It can be the rolling restart, but more likely is the furniture was overhanging onto someone elses land, or you exceeded your prim limits (or someone else did on the rental area you are located at).
The *center* of an object needs to on land you control to stay there. That means that part of it can overhang onto other land. Its possible the region owner could return it in that case, but you should get a message that they did.
There's limits to how many primitive shapes are allowed on a region in total (15,000), and by land parcel in proportion to that total (117 and a fraction for each 512m of land). Sometimes if the limit is exceeded, an item that was there before gets returned. That's a system error, it should not let the new item get placed, but SL is a live world, and things mess up sometimes.

Thanks Daniel, Come to think of it, the things that disappeared were against the walls. Maybe my property line is a little further inside the room. I'll put things more toward the center of the room and see if my furniture behaves itself.

I try not to blatantly promote/spam the things I make in the forums, but this topic is just too good - and since the thing I'm going to be talking about is free... I'm going to do it... lol
We make a free HUD ( https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=1331215 ) that has a free LBOM (LustBaby Outfit Manager) in it. It uses RLV and a Relay -- there's a relay in the HUD -- to allow you to set up folders into specific outfits in your #RLV folder and then be able to access them with a menu. It seems to support up to about 60-70 outfits/avatar setups plus up to about 10 alternates within each outfit setup. (One person actually had 100 outfits set up and it worked fine - but once we added the "alternate" functions, she had to cut back to 75 base outfits to give it enough memory overhead lol)
Because it knows what parts are "clothes" and what parts are part of your "avatar rig" based upon how you set up your folders, it will allow you to "strip" (use responsibly and visit zindra before using this one!) and the right things will come off and the right things will stay on. And since it ONLY adds and removes things that it finds within the system folders, things like your HUDs and other "always on no matter what" type things won't ever come off unless you put something into a folder that would overwrite it. This makes changing outfits a lot easier because you just pick the new outfit from the menu rather than needing to take off the old stuff, finding the new stuff and wearing it and whatnot.
There are also a few "advanced" features in it that I see mentioned here...
One is a special "AutoRestore" folder in which you can put things that you want to have on in almost all situations, but that might get knocked off by accident or things you just don't want to bother making 50 copies of. This would be a good one for the "ears" mentioned above. Stick them into the AutoRestore folder and every outfit will get the ears applied with it - unless the chosen outfit happens to have other ears in it that would overwrite them.
Another advanced feature is the ability to add "Alt" folders. These are folders that can be chosen after you wear the main outfit and will be added to or will overwrite various parts from the main outfit. So maybe you have a jacket you want to add to an outfit for when you go outside in the cold - when you go outside, you can just pick the "Jacket" from the list of available alternates and it will wear that. And, of course, this would be good for having a few different sets of shoes (as mentioned above) to be able to pick from - or any other optional accessories - magic wands, elven swords, whatever.
It takes a bit of work to set up and plan out your outfits - but it sounds like most of the people in this thread are already doing that. This just uses a slightly different format to differentiate between "avatar parts" and "clothes". And it does require that you use RLV for the process to work (Yep. RLV, it's not just for bondage anymore! lol) The relay I have in the HUD can automatically be set to allow items that you own (such as this HUD) to control you without asking, but it won't let other people's things mess with you - so there is no real danger of walking into RLV traps or anything like that with it, btw.
There are a few downsides to it all, of course. No-copy items are still a pain in the butt to work with. They either need to be associated with a single avatar rig, put into that "AutoRestore" folder (and thus be a part of EVERY avatar rig), or added manually afterwards. I'm hoping that if I can clean up memory usage a bit (it's fine with small numbers of outfits - but as I said, once you get up to 70 or so plus some alts, it starts to run low on memory) I can add some "mapping" functionality to allow you to create some sort of dummy item or folder that maps to no copy items stored in another special folder. That's probably a little ways off yet, though.
This whole thing really started as a way for me to be able to make my products do cool things - like have a shower that strips you when you get in, or a bed that automatically puts you in your PJ's. I've also made plugins for our brain implant and/or sensations items that will change you into something else when the sun goes down - and back to what you had on before when it comes back up again - for werewolves and other creatures who do transformations by night. In the works is a "mermaid" kinda thing that will change you when you hit water (a la Darryl Hannah in Spash!) and lots of other fun things. But as I got going with the core system that allows all the cool plugins to work, I ended up making, what I consider, the coolest tool to hit SL in quite some time.
This won't be for everyone - it does take a good amount of reading and thought to get the folders set up to work. But I can say that everyone I have talked to who has done it loves it. There are even more features in it that I haven't mentioned too.
It's free, so if you have RLV (or want to get RLV and give it a shot - though setting up RLV and the relay the first time is a project of its own), it might be worth giving it a look, though. It can be a real time saver.

You should be able to copy and paste any piece of clothing into the folder, which will add it to the outfit. Items that are (no copy) can be moved to the folder, but obviously they will no longer be in their original folder.
