I was working on my Christmas house this morning. All of a sudden I was unable to take anything out of my inventory. I got the little symbol of a circle with the line through it . Which we all know it means can't move it. Anyway I decided to take my Christmas house back into my inventory and work on it later. Here is the catch, it looked like it was gone but when I checked my inventory it wasn't there and it wasn't on my land either or so I thought. I tried walking forward and it was like hitting a brick wall the house is still there but invisible. I tried everything to remove it. Hard to remove something you can't see. Bottom line is my land that I rent is showing all these prims used but they are not really there. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Ghosted prims usually get cleaned up on a sim restart. Your estate manager can probably make that happen.

I'd be nervous about doing that until the house shows up in your inventory, though. Dunno what's up with that one. Have you cleared your cache, relogged and waited for your inventory to reload?

if you are on the mainland, hit chat support and ask for a restart. I hope the heck when it restarts the house goes back into your inventory tho....

Maybe it's not a 'real' ghost.. Have you tried turning on View->Highlight Transparent?

Also, can you get to (or near) position 0,0,0 on the region (SW corner, I think) and see if you can spot the house there?

first thing I did was highlight transparent, it doesnt show the house. I can walk up to where I had placed the house and its there but as a ghost. it blocks me from walking so i know its there . I really don't want to bother the Estate manager. I think I will wait until Lindens do there rolling restart on Monday and hope that fixes it. Thanks for all your help.

Ghost prims show up when a hiccup between you and the asset server happens when you try to take/delete something. You think its gone, but the asset sever thinks otherwise. So you get a non phantom thing to bump into, but cant actually see it.

Restarting the sim is the only way i know of to "sync" things again. It is worrying to me as a restart will only sync the server with the central stuff. I don't think that will include putting a copy in your inventory =/

Be very careful picking things up, especially when SL is seemingly upside down. I always "take a copy" of my work first. Once i can see it in my inventory, i check to see if its still full perms(its easy to pick up a nocopy/nomod straggler prim too, which could break the perms). Then i finally "take" into inventory. Or for best results leave a copy rezzed and take a copy in your inventory. =)

Best of luck, i hope your house woes are fixed soon

Thanks for all your help.

No problem. Good luck with it!

You may also take a stroll over to 0,0,0, if you can get there - the house may be lurking off in that corner of the region.

Update

I just checked the grid status and I was on SL during the time they were doing an upgrade to the database. I am wondering if this is what effected me.

I am not sure that planned outage would include restarting any sim hosts.

I would ask your estate manager or owner for a restart. It is really just a matter of a few clicks. If it is a busy sim, a few minutes notice might be a good idea. I wouldn't want any of my tenants hesitating, I'd rather fix things right away.

I haven't checked the callender, but I think the next rolling restart could be as far away as the other side of Xmas. Excluding pilot rolls.

Best of luck.

That's the estate manager's job! Don't be shy to ask them about issues like this.
