Detach = LOSE ??

I lost an item..by detaching it..the only way it would come off..

It is not in my inventory or on the ground

How can I get this back? I have highlighted the invisible and camera viewed to under the floor.

nothing there.

If you are ABSOLUTELY sure it is not on the ground (imbedded in the floor, etc) or just lost in your inventory (a file you haven't thought of opening - although I suppose you must have typed in it's name), try logging off and in/clearing cache, etc. It can't have disappeared, it's there somewhere. Kind of like when you lose your keys in RL. You know they're in the house, somewhere, but where!?! I've heard it can take a day for something that has disappeared to reappear. Good Luck

*edit: There's a way to 'see' if something is imbedded 'inside' the ground, I just don't know it. Someone will come around and answer, I'm sure.

Well I am not sure how to search for it - embedded - I just used my SHIFT CTRL and ALT keys..

Is there a special way to look for embedded items?

If you really did do Detach and not Drop, there's no reason it should be in-world.. It should be in your inventory.

Did you or the sim you were in crash around this time? Was it behaving really weirdly? If not, keep at it with digging through your inventory..


If you have the client menu, do Client -> Disable Camera Constraints. That will let you move the camera to beneath the ground and look up buildings skirts and such. If you don't have the client menu, up by File Edit Vew and all that, press ctrl-alt-d to make it appear..

Just found something in search, you can use "Client / Disable Camera Constraints" to cam under the land, while using 'highlight' invisible. I'll keep on looking around for ideas...

Another thing to consider is that you might have accidentally clicked delete. If that's the case, check your trash folder. If you find it in there, right click on the item and then choose RESTORE.

If you're absolutely positive you clicked "Detach" then the item has to be somewhere in your inventory. It may have been moved somehow to another folder. If you can remember the name of the object (even part of it will do) enter it in the search field at the top of the inventory window. Or you could try looking in the recent items tab.

I just talked w/ the land owner and nothing belonging to me there at the moment they said.

Would this item go into a different name? Because I have already looked for it under its correct name.


The item was on and highlighted (since it is invisible) and the name was missing from inventory already..but still attached..

I was hoping it would go back in or to the floor..I clicked in the circle that comes up...DETACH..and it never reinstated the name/item into my inventory.. or anything just vanished...

Nope - it would be under your name. If the land owner says you don't have any prims there, I'd start looking at your inventory again...

I meant the name of the object...not a different person.. no to both though right

I can not find it .. I remember the name because I just bought addtional add ons for it this morning...very easy to remember name..

I found it weird that it was missing from my inventory prior to me detaching it..to edit it..I went to the new place to edit since I thought it could be something w/ where I was to begin w/ since I was trying to shut it off, and could not, because there was nothing available to 'take off'..thats why I had to detach


So there is no way..it would have changed names?

If it was there, the land owner probably wouldn't be able to see the name of the object, though - it would just show your name and how many prims you've got on that land.


A script in the object can change the objects name but I don't think that's likely to have happened.

I didn't think there was a 'take off' option for attachments - I thought detach was the only choice..

Did you just buy this item today? I have had the same issue before. To my client I had the item, but the database did not record the transfer. Once I wore it, and then TP'd the item was "stuck" and did not show in my inventory.. I "detacted" it from the pie menu and it vanished.. Never to reappear..

This is fairly common when the database server is overloaded, which it has been for days now.
The creator was nice enough to send me another when I explained what happened and sent them the transaction number.

Like others have said, try clearing cache and relogging..

Lizz that sounds exactly like what must have happened..its frustrating..because I have had this happen a week or so ago w/ a chimera loaded w/8 sine wave dances ..
Since then I had to rebuy everything..

What a nightmare!!!

I will check w/ the seller site?...about this but I really doubt it since it says in there product info..its not their problem really.

Happened to me the last time the server had a hiccup-bought some things, wore some of them, found it weird they didn't appear in my inventory after a tp, so I logged out, and after logging in they were completely gone...I got new copies by the sellers then.

I encountered something similar over the weekend - however, in my case it was an attachment I was editing scripts in which vanished from my inventory whilst still attached.
