Are you referring to the rental, price per meter or the initial purchase price outside of auction?

He's selling his sim; I would assume he's trying to get an idea of how much he can get for it.

Yes, old tier islands are in high demand. You should check around, and post a classified too.

Well a new Island is 1675 and the first month tier included, so a reasonable price as tier is lower on older islands, with a reduction for it being second hand and you're looking at around 1400 at the high end.

You're also in the advantageous position of not having to charge VAT on the purchase price for Europeans who are looking for islands.

I don't know Ciaran. LL have announced that grandfathering will continue at least through the first quarter of 2008, so I would price a grandfathered sim on par with a new sim, possibly more, assuming near a month of tier remains.

Maybe Hiro but a new sim comes with first month tier paid so the actual cost is 1675 - tier.

You're right though, an island with three + weeks tier paid is going to be worth more than an island with less than a week tier paid.

Also don't forget the USD$100 transfer fee, I was assuming the buyer would pay this in addition to the purchase price.

I suppose at the end of the day the value is simply what an individual is willing to pay. Having sold 12 islands in the last couple of months, some of which were grandfathered, I can tell you that it varies a lot! I had one guy who is reasonably well known in the land biz offering me US$700 for a grandfathered sim, and tried to convince me that was the market value! I hate to think how many less savvy people who have sold to him at that price, as he would have been very convincing to anyone who didn't know better. But then I suppose we are all responsible for our own choices! Over all, I had offers ranging from US$600 to US$1850 for grandfathered sims. I suppose it just depends how hard you are willing to look and how long you are willing to hold out for a buyer/seller that meets your value of the sim.

Ah ok, I always quote based on seller paying the transfer fee.

The first quarter used in this way usually refers to the first three months of the financial year, which in the UK would be April onwards. I'm not sure when the US financial year starts? Anyway, I read this as meaning, in this case, Jan-Mar.

Just to confuse matters the US financial year starts in October!

So tier prices are staying the same for Q1 according to LL, which is Jan-Mar, which is Q2 financial in the US and Q4 in the UK!

The US government's fiscal year begins in October. However, most company's fiscal year's match the calendar year. From wikipedia:
From: someone

Nevertheless, for about 65% of publicly traded companies in the United States and for the vast majority of large corporations in the UK and elsewhere, except in Australia and Japan, the fiscal year and calendar year are identical.
...
So the U.S. government's fiscal year begins on October 1 of the previous calendar year and ends on September 30 of the year with which it is numbered....As stated above, the tax year for a business is governed by the fiscal year it chooses.
The Australian government's fiscal year begins on July 1 and concludes on June 30 of the following year. This applies for personal income tax and the federal budget. In Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, India and Hong Kong, the government's financial year runs from April 1 to March 31, and the United Kingdom corporation tax is charged by reference to that period.
