I cannot hear any sounds or ambient in SL. This is a new development as I used to hear them all. I use voice chat and that works fine. Also everything seems to be set correctly in Preferences and toggle bars are turned up. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks

My ambient sound has been funny lately as well. Relogging usually solves the issue.

I seem to be the only person in SL with this problem. Voice works fine (Usually) and music works if the Stream happens to be working. I haven't changed anything in preferences. Could it be something in my computer settings? thanks

I've been having a similar problem, but losing the regular sounds...the IM ding and the teleporting swoosh. Re-logging fixes it everytime. I thought at first it might be a Vista problem, because I've had countless audio issues with my new Vista computer. Reading the replies here I see theres others losing partial sound, so I guess it might a SL issue.

I haven't got the audio & video buttons, yet both are ticked in preferences, any ideas?

My ambient sounds seem to vary wildly. Sometimes I'll hear wind and TP sounds, sometimes they'll disappear. Seems pretty random to me. Dunno how to help.

In my short term experience, I have also noticed variable performance with audio performance. I figured it was just my computer.

I have a feeling it's a memory issue. After a while I lose some sound functionality (the typing noise is the first to go) until I relog.
