Here I am again, trying to get thru step 1. I am moving stuff around now with assurance, and can rotate at my own pleasure. I can stretch and shrink. But I am not permitted to get at the bloody &*%%##@(%$# colors. I follow the instructions in 'the book' to the letter. As follows:

Right click on a prim and choose Edit.
Click the Texture tab.
Click the color box.
Choose a color and then click the Select button.

Aggggghhhhhhhh. That's exactly what I want to do. But where in God Almighty's holy heaven is this so called "Select" button? Not anywhere on my screen. Texture is open, and Color is open, although what I get for color choices is pretty stinking pitiful compared to what the book shows.

Please don't rail against me for being a little cute. My choices, at this moment, are: scream, cry, faint, be cute, throw up.

Where can I find the Select button, so I can move on, and stop asking idiot questions of the forum?

Anyone who can and does help me will get a superb little limerick on a notecard. How's that for gratitude?

The select button is there for me. . .

ETA: I'll leave you to it, Daniel :)

When you open the colour box, you should see:

A large colour selector, mid-left
A luminance slider, mid right
A pallet of colours (2 rows of small square boxes) under these
'cancel' and 'select' buttons (wide blue ovals) at the bottom right.

There is confusion between using the SL colour picker and the operating system colour picker. It is the SL colour picker that has the "S elect" button. To use the SL colour picker you need to activate the Advanced menu by typing ctrl+alt+D. From the advanced menu chose "Debug Settings..." near the bottom. From the list in the Debug Settings box find "UseDefaultColorPicker". Set this to FALSE. And then you should get the SL colour picker when you click on the colour square in the texture tab of the edit box.

And of course, this forum software doesn't like the "S" word. At least, not when I use it :(

I have never done the debug settings for the color picker, and my color picking window has the select button... (it should be that way by default, has been that way for me all along, exactly as shown in the link in the post above)

The same for me. It used to be an option in Preferences that has since been moved. This issue came up before, a week or two ago, and it was Argent (I think) who twigged what was going on. I've been in touch with the OP in-world - I wasn't able to post here until I remebered not to use the "S" word - and he has confirmed that this was indeed the issue. As to why some users find this particular setting set differently, apparently by default, I am as baffled as you.

(Edit) Oh, I think I see what you mean. My wording is perhaps ambiguous. To make it clearer, you only need to adopt the procedure I've described if you find that you're using your operating system colour picker and you want to use the SL colour picker instead. If you're using the SL colour picker already, with its "S elect" button intact, and are happy with that arrangement, then you don't need to do anything at all.
