For about the past two weeks now, whenever I log in my avatar is a ghost. OK, no big deal I have had this happen from time to time, but only for a few minutes, not two weeks!
I cant go into appearance, when I search in my inventory for items worn, nothing comes up, and I can't wear new items.
Has this happened to anyone else, and if so what is the fix?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

have you cleared your cache?
try to log in a low lag area..
relog( is what i do if i am a ghost)

On the Advanced menu (CTRL + ALT + D if it's not next to the Help menu) under Rendering you'll find a choice to test default avatar , male or female, sorry I'm not in SL right now but I think it's the third choice of the rendering menu.... Anyway, puts you back to the default state and has been known to fix such issues.
It does mean though, that you'll have to dig around and find yourself again lolol (ie shape/skin etc) if it works.

From: treat Pick quickest trick is to drag a folder (set of clothing) to yourself if they can not wear new items, dragging the folder to themselves won't help I would do as suggested by the other poster and go to the test female/male sounds like something to do with your avatar is not downloading properly or is corrupted. good luck (and let us know the outcome)

We use the term "ghosted" for the situation where the sim hasn't logged an avatar out, so it can't log back in. This sounds more like you are stuck as a Ruth cloud, which indicates a partial connection is being maintained, I think, usually, or that there's corruption preventing the rendering (test avatar will deal with that I think, or file a ticket).
Make sure nothing is interfering with your SL connection. Check firewalls and reset your modem and router. Search in here for information - I'll see what I can dredge up.

YAY! I'm back. The advanced-character test thing worked.
