Anyone from Santa Cruz?

Unable to contact UCSC all day, I thought it was a problem with the university, but it turns out to be the whole of Santa Cruz and the surrounding area http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/ci_12108675?source=most_viewed.

Now I thought tjhe whole point of the internet was that redundant routing made it immune to single points of failure. So much for that idea!

So, the questions are, is there anyone here from Santa Cruz? And, how susceptibel is SL to this kind of sabotage?

Most of Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties were affected by this act of sabotage. Yes, this was a deliberate act. Four cables were cut near Monterey Road and Blossom Hill, and then two hours later, a couple of cables were cut in San Carlos.

I suppose with a bit of moxey, someone could probably take down parts of second life if they tried hard enough.

Yeah, it is pretty weird. Thankfully for comcast I still have connection, go figure. Surprised it has not happened before.

You can say SL is vulnerable, considering the server facility's probably all have one central line of fiber coming out of each data facility. So you could cause some massive chaos by cutting there fiber line(s)

It has been reported that things should be on by 6:00pm, but it is already past that time so..... yeah... not really happening.....
