Something kind of like Facegen Modeler for Second life?

Personally I have used facegen modeller for alot of games I play to make my character/avatar look like me through the face.

I was wondering if there is a tool that works with Second life in a similar manner. Just to the extent of getting the proper sliders for my face.

For instance I take 3-5 images (only 3 in facegen modeller) Face front/Left Profile/right profile/left half profile/right half profile) and then load them into my computer and onto the software. I wait a few hours and the software shows me its results, If I am satisfied with how it looks I press save to slider file. load up second life and use the slider file to one by one change the sliders manually in SL to make my face.

Just wondering if its possible or if maybe I can get someone who doesn't already got a headache to grab facegen and see if they can figure out what sliders would be best for what one in SL.

I am currently trying to figure this out but its giving me a headache major.

thanks for any help in this matter to all those who respond.

Going back to Sl to try and get my face right.

This would also be a good tool for those who are Making Celebrity avatars and avatars to look like a character from some random game.

Like I would also use this to make another shape to look like Geralt from the Witcher and the main dude from Fahrenheit before he gets all paste. Heck even Seifer from Final Fantasy 8.

I play different RP that those would all fit into....... damm I got off my own topic...... Anyways thanks again if you can help. If not thanks for looking.

EDIT------------------------------------------------------------

As a side note. I have searched forums. Either I am not using the right terms or its nothing posted. Also google goes to not even talking about second life after page one.

You can get your face on a skin at Cyberextruder on Avatar Island. Very quick.

I am looking for something to give me the correct sliders for my faces shape

Head/Nose/Eyes

Sorry if I was not clear on that. I knew about the skin I am not interested in that actually, I want to look like me but not that much like me lol.

If you want to see what FaceGen Modeller does
http://www.facegen.com/modeller.htm

thats the official website I use this for my characters in games like Oblivion. and many others though having to use thirdparty mods.

I am working now to see if I can convert the sliders I get with that to Second life sliders and if I can get the mathmatics down will create a convertor so that I can save a text file with the sliders converted for SL. The sliders in that use different values and well has a whole lot more sliders than SL does. So its not going to be dead on but I hope I can get close.

However If something that works like this (for the SHAPE of the head not the skin) already I dont want to waste my time.

Even if I have to buy another peice of software to make it work...

there is a free demo version of FGM on that site, hope this post helps clear up what I was asking if exists.

You can't edit your SL shape with outside software. Yes, it would be helpful, but it is also the reason shapemaking (whether we're talking celebrity shapes or in general) is an art. You need to use your eyes and have a feel for proper dimensions.

If I understand you correctly you are asking how to calibrate the sliders you have in facegen
with the sl sliders?

Personally I am not sure if there is a pre-established way of doing this. Or if there is if it is worth the trouble.

You might want to take a look at a skin texture type that is applied to the SL avatar.

The section of the forums you want to check out is the texture tips forum.

There is a ton of info in the stickies at the top. Plus there may be someone there that has
already tried what your talking about.

Not a bad idea but it might put shape makers out of business.

I'd be happy to give a custom shape a go for you if you're game. Send me a note card in world if so.

Well some of us used to do this for other games, it's more about a look and feel for it as was said. Personally I think art gives more than a machine. Notice how wax figures do not always look like the real thing even though it's all done with calipers?

This might fall under product request, those might be found in world already. (The famous or video game faces you mentioned)

You might also suggest this idea in the forum for suggesting ideas to LL, although again it might help put shape makers out of business. Que sera, sera.

I think the equipment at avatar island does copy your face shape too, with the aid of a side profile picture. I did take a look there once.

Thanks for the help.

I am just gonna get about 5 different profile images of my face with my hair up in spikes so I can see all the dimensions of my face, plop them on an object, and manually do it by eye. I have always tried without uploading the images and for some faces I can get them pretty easy my face just is not coming out.

As for putting the shapemakers out of bussiness personally I dont think it would. This is only for the face prtion. People would still buy shapes for the body shape, however if this where to happen I would like to at the same time see Body shape and head shape be 2 seperate things. Where you have to wear both a Body shape and a Head shape. This would keep the shape makers in bussiness and probably even make bussiness better. As I could then buy lets say an Aman shape without loosing my face. And it would also add new bussiness for face shapes.

Anyways the Facegen Modeller sliders have given me a headache to the point I am tired of trying to convert them into SL sliders.

Again thanks everyone for the help.

And Clarissa Lowell if this route does not work for me I might take you up on the offer.

Conifer, I have seen friends go that route, and to be honest the shape/skin actually look pretty hideous in world. I did not want to say that because I applaud the effort put into building those tools and dont want to down anyones work. But I have yet to see anyone with a descent looking outcome. And as for the matter of it doing shapes if It does shapes as quickly as they say it finishes its not quality work. I have seen faces take up to 4 hours in Facegen to ensure its correct and never seen any take less than 15 minutes this is because it has to make adjustments compare, readjust compare. this cannot be done in 10 seconds like the tools at avatar island does. Even with the time Facegen takes I have seen it come out perfect only maybe 1 in 5 tries.

Anyways I might not even go with my own look. I am thinking about just going ahead and making my AV look like Geralt from the witcher I just realized his face shape would look great with the skin I have on.

Anyhow, thanks everyone for the input.

nope it doesn't

the way avatar island (the cyber extruder) works is you will submit a photo to their system (via the website) and then they will send you the 3 textures needed to make the skin

you upload those to SL, create a new skin, apply textures to the tattoo area (where skin makers apply the skin textures) and then save the skin.

they do not include the shape

(how do I know this, I work for them, customer service and all around helper, and have helped many with new skins from avatar island, including customization)

the nice thing is you get the textures so you can do whatever you want with them in a photo editing program, such as makeup, tattoos, etc

in response to flashing's comment about the skins being hideous

the skin can only be as good as the picture that was used, a lot of folks do not understand this.

I have seen some pretty bad results, because the picture used was blurred, or the person was smiling, or had their head tilted, etc (also keep in mind, that Avatar Island does not do the shape, and as we all know, shape does play a part) (as well as from people tweaking it in PS and making it worse)

I have also seen some very good results, and the pic used was very clear, high quality, no smile, head shot straight on, hair back, etc

(and as I said, the fact that one can edit the textures before using in SL is a huge asset, at least to me it is)
