I'm Listed as Creator/Owner and I'm Neither

Sometime yesterday a tree was left on my property and I was listed as both the owner and creator of the object, even though I didn't own or create the object. It was phantom, and I had difficulty deleting it. I had to delete the object from it's point on the ground.

Can anyone tell me how I can be listed as the creator of an object I didn't create, and the owner of an object I never bought?

Unless other people saw the same information I'd conclude it was just a temporary slopping over. I would be willing to bet no one else would see what you saw.

Well… is it possible that you were the creator of the tree? It's easy enough to do accidentally: click the magic wand, click on plant instead of the prim type you wanted, clik on the floor upstairs or in a skybox, hey nothing happened! Trees and grass always rez on the ground even if you're higher up, so you might not discover what really happened until later.

I've seen this before when I'm trying to check objects, it's usually a temporary quirk.

I think this is mostly likely what happened, it's happened to me before too. The fact that the tree had to be selected close to the ground indicates that it was mostly likely a Linden tree.

I rezzed a tree by accident in my skybox yesterday and never saw it appear. Now I know what happened to it.

I've got to stop taking what people say at face value, it seems.

I never had that happen but I have several things in my own inventory and alts
inventory that has different Lindens as creator and owner, truthfully few of them I just
rather have it deleted then taking up space....No offense to Torley.
I also have had textures that my alt Carry Pack uploaded that worked on for hours one was
corn row texture but some how creator became someone else, someone I have never owned any object or item from.
I have no clue how this happen with me or with you but it sounds like it something
on LL's side.
Only time I have ever seen something similar was when this acquaintance was changing creator fields with what he said was legal copybot device but he didn't have any of issues
you mentioned nor did he mention it.
In past Linden trees you could re-rezz once made that came from inventory anywhere
and the creator field was always Linden name maybe it changed recently?

Make sure, FD, that when you create a body or clothing part that you first start with a fresh right-click "create body part" file in your inventory that will list you as creator, then apply your texture.

If you add your texture on an existing body part it will list as the creator the person who did the right-clicking when the part itself was created.

Linden trees and grass always end up at the 'real' ground of a sim if created using the wand. So watch out rezzing them using the creation panel.
You can find most (all?) linden trees in the library too, rezzing them from there will not cause them to get stuck hundreds of meters below the place you were rezzing them then.

LOl I learned that one the hard way when we had our island. We used a 256x256 megaprim sky platform for our living and working space high above the PI. While trying to landscape it in a BAD time of lag/inventory/rezzing issues, I never got 1 tree on the platform
The next day I got an IM from a customer to let me know that 200 trees in our texture shop were making shopping a nightmare

I rezzed one of Eric Linden's Pine trees on ground level and I noticed it had
me listed as owner and creator too.
My friend next door had same thing going on with his Pine tree so maybe it's
weird Linden tree issue right now?
