I log in to SL, and my screen is covered with group messages, many which are for specific events, and include and attachement that is a landmark, and some that are for new releases etc, that include attached pictures. So then I click on all the attachments for more info, and I am really drowning. I must deal with all of this in some way, before I can do what I really came into SL to to right then.
Does anyone have a good system to log to info onto calendars, reminders to go buy certain clothes, reminders to write or take photographs for certain contests, etc?
I have played a little with Google Calendar, and with Googe Notepad, but I'm having trouble being consistent. And I belong to too many groups to keep checking group history notices - and that is not a very efficient way to do it, anyway.
I don't want to scribble it all down on little pieces of paper, nor do I want to dash off right then to go buy something, or look at a gallery opening, etc, because I don't have time. But I do want to do it later.
HELP! What do you busy people do to keep track of all those things?

If you're deluged with notices and receive news of far too many IMs, if you constantly find yourself closing out group IM windows because it's distracting you from what you're really here for, get rid of the spam. Clean out your Groups, get rid of a good number of them, enough to make a real difference.
There is no sense in belonging to a Group whose only purpose is to distract you.

From: Atashi Yue I don't, I just click decline/discard and hope for the best. Seconded. The only group notices I read through are ones from the University of Submission, because they matter to me.. the others I check the title, and go from that. Almost all get declined or whatever.

Hey!
Yeah logging in with very chatty groups can be a hassle but there are a couple of ways to lessen the load when you log on.
1. Go to each of your groups settings and have notices sent to your email. This will send everything that a group sends to your email when your not online. You will at least have a record of what group sent you something althought attachments wont be able to be viewed you will know which one has an attachment.
2. Most groups allow you to view and grab past notices for a period of time also so you can snatch the attachments either again or if you flew past them on log in (you can also see this setting in the group ability settings I think)
3. If you just stay in your secondlife you wont miss anything....besides RL is so predictable, its all work, drive, sleep, work ,drive ,sleep, there are even failed transactions and death teleports, however logging off from your RL is not recomended.

I have weeded myself down to the groups I want to hear from. And I do have it set so that all messages go to my email. Unfortunately, attachments to not go to emai.
So when I log in,and I want to make note of those gallery openings, etc, so I don't miss them, or I want to go to that store that has a freebie, etc, where do I keep track of it all?!
Nothing I am trying is working. What are the Notes someone referenced about? I've tried to put things in my Google calendar, but I can't include the LM I was given, unfortunately.
And some of it is stuff I know i want to deal with later, just can't do it right now. How do I keep those tasks organized?
I am drowing in virtual paper and post it notes!

I think there's a way to 'refresh' the notices when you look through the group info. I've never tried this, but I assumed it erased notices up to the present date. If this is the case, you could then jot down on your 'Notes' tab in your profile which group notices to check back later on, (there wouldn't be so many to scroll through).

Yes, you can check the history of notices in group settings (at least for a little ways back). Jotting down the groups I need to check later that day during "office time" or "shopping time" is a good idea! Thanks!

I have a Planner that I wear - it is invisible - and I add Events to it and when the event comes up it notifies me 30 minutes ahead and allows me to select an option for another reminder in different minute intervals and will keep reminding me until I dismiss it. For other things: go to store X for a sale sometime before day 3 or go to store B to buy item Z that someone told me about -- these I just type into a Notecard that is named "! !! TO-DO". That name keeps it at the top of the notecard list. You can drag landmarks into notecards also. I use this same notecard to save landmarks for Events that my Planner will notify me of. BTW - Group notices are a bit messed up right now and you might not even get them all, so even if you don't like checking the Notice History, you should do so for each group every few days or so.

You could use the My Notes section in your own profile.

From: Cristalle Karami You could use the My Notes section in your own profile. Not sure how many characters My Note will hold. Not in world to check. Right now it is filled with the various email addresses, etc I have to remember to send photos to Flickr, Snapzilla, or blog them, so they are readily accessible to me inworld. Thanks for the idea!

I used to use this and keep notes on ppl I met in world in the notes section of their profile until for some reason SL wiped them all clean on me now I just used notecards (and even notepad on the pc if it is something I really need to keep)

Extra long, important ones also get saved on my computer as a .txt

I specifically use a Notecard because I can drag the landmarks to it and it holds way more characters than My Notes on profile. I don't remember what that limit is, but I have reached it on the notes that I've written on others and that is way less than I keep in my TO-DO notecard. I'll get the specifics on the Day Planner that I have when I get inworld this afternoon and IM that info to you. It is real easy to set up. It uses a chat command to go from invisible to visible - once it is visible, I simply Edit it, open a Notecard from its Contents, and add my latest Events. I love the fact that it pops up a little notice to remind me of upcoming stuff because I can lose track of time so easily in SL.

You mean you read all that?
LOL When I log in......generally I ignore all the accumulated group notices unless I know that I should be paying atention to somehting I'm involved in. Like....the magazine I write for....I read those notices obviously......or if I've entered a contest and there's an update or whatever. But for the most part, when I log in.....I don't bother worrying about every single notice i've got since my last log in. Most of it's crap. I figure if it's a sale or event notice.....and I'm on line when it pops up....great.....if not....I'm not gonna stress that I missed the notice.
I look at IM's first...see what needs my attention. I set my sky cause default is just too boring......and then whatever happens from there with notices, I'll deal with. But the pile up on my screen at log in.... I get rid of it. click clikc click click click click bang. hehe

I also note that I have my IMs go to email. So I will not rush into SL right away; I will read the email first, and then respond to any pertinent IMs.
