No, sorry, you can't. If you've seen others without a nametag, it was probably because you had your preferences set to Show only briefly.

I've seen avs without nametags when all the others had their tags showing (confirming that I have my preferences set to show always). At times, I think it's either a viewer bug or an oddity of one tag hiding another. But in other cases, I think it's a deliberate trick. My best guess as to how this might be done is with pose balls that animate the avatar at a distance from the ball. The tag stays near the pose ball (probably underground), but the avatar is elsewhere due to the design of the animation. I emphasize that this is just a guess, but I know the phenomenon does exist.

That makes sense. Depending on what I'm doing (like horse back riding, etc), my tag changes position... good point.

I emphasize that this is just a guess, but I know the phenomenon does exist. I have seen this also...not very often though. I have also seen it with my own avatar (even though I did not change preferences). It seemed to occur with me after having switched from another avatar shape. or sometimes when I have used a shield/battle system like the Omicron. Thats about the only input I can add to your question...as I said..it has happened very few times with myself or with other people. And in their situation, I did not ask them how they did it. I think it was just a bug though.

I saw a guy yesterday who had a big enough invisi-prim rezzed that he and his tag disappeared behind it. His green dot still showed on the mini-map, but I couldn't tell he was there just by looking at him.

From: Sansarya Caligari I saw a guy yesterday who had a big enough invisi-prim rezzed that he and his tag disappeared behind it. His green dot still showed on the mini-map, but I couldn't tell he was there just by looking at him. A guy was doing this a few weeks ago on the island that I live on. It looked like he was spying on a couple of people that were in a house on the opposite corner from me. I could see him from his green dot and the distortion that the invisi-prim leaves. I cammed into his invisi-sphere and took a picture of him..then sent him the picture with an IM telling him that people don't like to be spied on and that his invisi-prim wasn't all that "invisible" yeah, yeah...I suppose me camming into his sphere was 'spying" also wasn't it?...but he started it!! lol I actually mentioned to him that using those is against the TOS and he replied he only came to the island because it was quiet. mmhmmm
