Putting time into irrelevant things

Tonight I finally got in sl after downloading the new content they put out that was mandatory. I see where they once again changed the chat, music, tv boxes and everything as well as the the ones for no builds and no pushing as well as the others. I saw they also changed a few things in the preferences box.

My question is why waste time changing these things each time they add something new? Is it really necessary to spend time, time that can be wisely spent fixing all these bugs that we've had for the longest of times instead of concentrating on little signs and boxes that are not broken and don't require any attention.

I don't understand these people or how they've managed to keep this game going for a few years now.

They took out the preference box when you log in. But...but..I thought they do things to make it easier for us and not more difficult. What purpose did taking it out help accomplish?

Maybe overtime for them?

It's still available from the menu.

When you have a button like that on the login screen, new users are going to push it. That's fine and dandy if it does something that's appropriate for new users and that they can understand and cope with. But the preferences button is something that would confuse and confound many new users.

So removing the button while keeping the menu item seems like a plausible thing to do. I'm just speculating on their motivation, but it's not the type of change that I'd consider making things more difficult nor a total waste of their time.

This one actually makes sense to me: Preferences is now under the Edit menu at the top even before login, so it's more consistent--which in turn makes it easier to reference or document.

In principle, it's not a bad thing to tidy-up the UI. Just not sure how it was decided that the new status bar icons (No Build, No Fly, etc) are better than the old ones. The new batch seems a lot less distinct from each other than were their predecessors.

[Edit: Kidd types faster. :p]

Ok, that I didn't see on top but I did notice they took off the particles couint. Those come in handy when building and now they've been taken out.

They moved that to custom settings in graphics. It's a slider now. I just found that out messing with the impostor thing.

Carlos you joined about the same time as I did, in 2006. For me SL has got better since then. Scupted prims, WindLight graphics, lots more land and now Havoc4 physics.

I enjoy the progress that I've seen in this developing world. True, I don't enjoy the bugs and problems, but on balance the struggle has been worth it.
