I installed my new (Old) VisionTek x1550 card.

Lo and behold, it works!

I posted this eariler today:

/327/0e/225360/1.html#post1772677

and have managed to install the card with the latest drivers. Mind you, I have not optimized anything yet, still learning, but from what I can see, everything is working as it is supposed to, (never mind the Windlight bugs)

There really is hope for us with older pc's.

A couple of screenshots from my balcony, nothing special, but just showing that it works! :)

(the card was US$52.99 on sale, older hardware, so not many left out there)

/yrrek wonders if there might be a commission involved?

This does look like it might be a good deal for those with the old fashioned PCI video slots.

That was done with a PCI card? Looks better than I figured it would. The bigger question: what is your average framerate with this card?

for all of those concerned about their fps... i have the best graphics card on the market and am satisfied gettting just 7-20 frames (the reason for this is my 1920x1200 screen res and have every single ingame setting maxed, plus 8x AntiAliasing enabled through my gpu's control panel)...

dont worry about how high (or low) your frames are, just find an acceptable balance between image quality and performance... second life does not need to flow... its not meant to flow smoothly... it wasnt designed that way.

get a pretty picture and as long as you can still navigate the camera, youre good. id say a good minimum for SL is 5fps (of course it wont ALWAYS be that low... thats in a worst case scenario, ie a crowded place)...

Wisest thing I've ever heard on the Forums!!

Which means no one will do it & just complain instead.;)

I was asking about fps because I find that when it drops into single digits, SL is practically useless. It may look good, but if you can't move, its really no fun. I have been around long enough to know that 12-20 fps is fast enough to move around at a reasonable speed.

I'm sort of curious about this card. I'd really like to hear more from the OP on how well it handles Windlight. If it does well, that card might be just the solution for the most vocal of the anti-Windlight crowd.

15 - 18 Fps

15 - 18 FPS on mainland (Jingyo), the new continent (Tipaskan), and a class 5 island (Diegoland).

I am still playing with the settings, trying to decide the best. Between the actual card settings and game settings, it is getting me a bit lost, lol.

I have a minimal system and a 768 DSL connection running about 680 kps.

Specs:
Second Life 1.18.5 (74061) Nov 19 2007 10:10:17 (Second Life WindLight)

You are at 283617.0, 260768.0, 44.3 in Tipaskan located at sim3924.agni.lindenlab.com (63.210.156.82:12035)
Second Life Server 1.18.5.73200

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Northwood (2392 MHz)
Memory: 760 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Graphics Card: VisionTek Radeon X1550 Series x86/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.0.7058 WinXP Release
LLMozLib Version: 1.1.0 (Mozilla GRE:1.8.0.12_0000000000)
Packets Lost: 44/53987 (0.1%)

Still need to find the optimal settings but am very satisified with what I have so far! :)

Planning to put it through its paces this weekend.

Note: The ATI X1300 & X1400 both have Model 3 shaders but they are both listed as class 2 in GPU_table.txt Don't think they will work.
