Neuronet, which is planned to be separate from the Internet, "will evolve into the world's first public network capable of meeting the data transmission requirements of emerging cinematic and immersive virtual-reality technologies," according to a Thursday announcement from the Vancouver-based International Association of Virtual Reality Technologies. www.news.com/Virtual-reality-to-get-its-own-network/2100-1033_3-6146339.html?tag=nefd.topStill never heard of it yet .

Interesting that the first sign of this brings up a discussion of whether this is a scam or not because it isn't so well known and it has no apparent (transparent) backers.
I.. don't think this would do too well at the beginning, limited mostly to the hardcore gamers and big companies. I can't see the rest of the world paying MORE for the honor of limited use. I like multitasking and I'd hate the idea of paying two bills that do similar things.. and having to keep up with two connections.

Good points Raudf but keep in mind that Vancouver just opened the first Masters in Digital Media center supported by the local universities and EA and that Microsoft just opened its first satellite campus here as well. The powers that be have been working over time to make Vanouver a Digital Media and VP center. EA has a huge presence here and there are a lot of VFX houses. To say that gov and biz in Vancouver are very supportive in the future of Digital Media would be an understatement. We already have a special backbone in place that funnels Dailies digitally to LA (Dailies are the day's worth of camera work for a TV show or movie). And shows like Battlestar Galactica are shot digitally.
Would this solve some of SL's problems by giving them a dedicated pipeline designed to handle the load?
That being said, this could just be as flakey as pie crust. Time will tell.
