Getting small land

Hi everyone,

I just bought a small beach house and I need land very close to the water. It's very hard to find good land. Most of these lands are too big for my small beach house. How can I find small beach lands or island?

I used all searches on SL. No luck. =(

Best Regards,
Marco

It's true that Search is not useful for specific requirements such as yours. (You can look for "beach" or "water" or "ocean" in the listings, but it's hit-or-miss.)

I'd recommend actually flying along the coasts. Just start with any coast, really. If you open the Map and move around you will find coast with yellow blocks, representing land for sale. TP there and start flying. (To see the yellow blocks, be sure that the Land For Sale checkbox does have a check in it.)

If you go to your View menu (top of your screen) and make sure that either Property Lines or Land Owners has an X by it (just click on it), you can see what land is for sale by its orange color. You can also have the Map open; occasionally click Show My Location to see where you are.

Right click on the land itself to see the price for the land.

You would be surpised at how many beach parcels are inexpensive---you can find them for L$5 per square meter, if you look.

If by small you mean a 512sqm or 1024sqm use the map. Turn on the "land for sale" button and just scan the coast line. Land prices are very low right now but waterfront prices will most likely be a bit higher, especially the nice plots.

Good luck.

I suppose that depends on the beach house and what's to be put into it. A standard 512 is 16x32m, so the house would have to fit in that footprint. Standard single-prim land gets 117 prims for a 512, so everything--house, contents, landscaping--would have to total fewer than that.

If this is all obvious, sorry; I'm starting at a pretty basic level based on join date, but of course this may indicate nothing. If you are just starting out, however, you may want to try a rental first before buying anything, just to see what things you find important after you've experienced your own place for a while. (Not that it's such a huge investment these days; Mainland, even waterfront, is at historic low prices, although there's a lot of junk on the market that reflects the much higher prices of earlier times.)

Waterfront Mainland varies greatly in price. It is hard to find on the search list because you can only sort by size and price but not by types of area. Best plan is to find a waterfront mainland area and start flying around with your map on and land for sale checked.

Renting an estate is another option if you can find one that rents small plots. You are a lot more likely to find nice waterfront on an estate. Just don't put too much money down in case the estate owner sells his/her Island or gets out of SL.

Okay, found and bought a nice place. 1024 sqm². But the restriction is set to "adult". How can I change it?

You can't change that. (And, also, you can't change land set as PG or Mature, either.)

If you want to run a business LL considers 'Adult' then you may want to go through with buying on the Adult continent. If not, you'll find much lower prices for beach land if you move the Map over to the west (left) of where that Adult parcel is.

(There's a slider at the bottom right of the Map--move it around until you see all the continents, then zoom in on one of the non-Adult continents, which are ALL the continents except for the one where you found the Adult parcel.)

You can't if it's Mainland. So only those who are adult verified can visit you there.

Only Estate owners can change the rating. That can never be done on parcel level.
Even if you own an entire mainland sim, you still cannot change it yourself.
The estate owner is shown on the 2nd tab in "about land" That will be the person to contact. (or one of the estate managers) to request a change on the sim's rating.

the only exception is if you would rent an entire sim with estate manager rights.

Don't change it, or worry about it.

Adult land currently commands a premium price over PG or Mature land...so you have more valuable land there.

You don't have to do adult stuff on Adult land.

The only downside is that to visit you, your friends must be account verified. Either have payment information on file, or use the age verification process.

What is your budget, Marco?

The best way remains simple process of elimination, though. You might also keep an eye on Linden land auctions.
