Hello,
I know how to to open boxes & copy items to my inventory. Afterwards I have to 'take' the box back else it gets left behind.
I seem to get the original boxes, and the items from within the box, mixed up in the inventory. I sometimes cannot tell which is which ? I have lots of boxes, which may or may not be empty ? I have to 'open' them all again to see if they are empty ?
Can anyone help me avoid the confusion ?
Or is it just me ?

I normally delete them after I unpack them.

I normally delete empty boxes after moving the contents into my inventory, rather than taking the empty wrapper back into inventory.

if you sort by date (a choice under "Sort" on the inventory screen) then the oldest version will be lowest down on the list.
I always make folders to put stuff in to keep it distinct.

Hi, Oxy. What I do is:
> Open a box, move the stuff to your inventory, but leave the box rezzed. > If the box is not special in some way, I delete it immediately. To do this: right-click on it again, and hit "more" on the pie menu until you see the "Delete". When you choose that, the box should disappear within a few seconds.
The only way a box is "special" for me is if it is actually part of the object I bought, like a rezzer for a prefab. But, before you "take" even a special box, you can check to see if it's copiable. If it is, you still have the original in your inventory, so you can delete the one you rezzed. .

oxy If it helps, any items in the box that are (no copy) are moved to your inventory and taken out of the box, which is why you may be seeing partly full boxes under Objects.

When you rez the box and then Open it, if you select the option to "Copy to Inventory", it should be creating a folder by the same name as the box that you rezzed. I only TAKE the box back to Inventory if it was No Copy (else I have a copy in inventory still) AND it is one of two cases: 1) it contains a picture of the outfit and the folder that got created does not have an outfit picture in it. 2) as Nika said, the box is part of the object in some way Otherwise, delete the rezzed one per the instructions Nika gave. Additionally, if the box was Copy allowed, you will still have one in inventory. If I do not want that copy for one of the reasons given above or as a backup, I will delete that copy also. I do keep backups of some items and those original boxes I move to a Backup folder.

Well, here is what I do:
If the box contained all copyable items, then the original box will still be in my inventory after rezzing and using it, containing the entire purchased set. So I delete the used box, and then move the original in my inventory into an "Archive" folder, where I keep the master copies of any copyable items that I have bought. That way, I know where I can go to find a "clean" copy if I alter or damage the one I unpacked.
If the set included no-copy items, the only reason I might keep the box is for the picture of the outfit on the box. In that case, I would take the box back into inventory, and then move it to a different archive folder for empty no-copy boxes that I might want to refer to. But usually, I will just delete these boxes as well.

Sometimes people sell you a no-copy box with copyable contents, for some obscure reason.

They do that so no one can package their own fake products in what looks like a legitimate box or bag from the well known store, and pass it off as better quality merchandise. If the container is not copyable, but the entire contents are, then I would take the container back into inventory and file it with my archived stuff.

Instead of keeping the original box for a picture of the outfit, I just take a picture of the box, upload it to SL, and save it in the outfit folder with the rest of the box contents.
