Full of what? Full of prims? Probably not, only that sim's server has to keep track of them. Full of avatars? Yeah, probably. All the people in the sim next to yours are "child agents" of your sim, which means your server has to feed them the same information it gives you. (Since even though they're not in your sim, they can still see everything in your sim from where they are.)

(Above statement not guaranteed to be accurate.)

Thank you for answering. yeah full of people. So it would make a difference if the avies can "see" your sim?

Not entirely.. If they are, for example, all in a skybox, they're probably not acting as child agents. Best bet is to check the stats bar, ctrl-shift-1, and look for Child Agents. That'll tell you how many people in the 8-possible neighboring sims can see your sim.

edit: and I dunno how much of an impact child agents have.. I'd guess it depends a lot on what's happening. If there's tons of stuff moving around on either sim or if the people are moving around a lot, it probably does drag your sim down. No idea how much, though. If there's traffic but it's pretty quite, that may not be as bad.

I remember being told that your sim has to send all the info to child avatars for everything they can see, so it needs to tell them all the same things it tells you, objects, what textures, etc. Plus your sim probably has to pass those messages on to you?

Ironically, we are our own worse enemies for lag, if we all simply kept our draw distances lower, a lot less information would have to be sent to everyone! ;)

IIRC, child agents are only for avs near the region boundary, and not all avs in the neighboring region.

+1 :D

We're our own worst enemies for lag in a number of ways, and that will never change.

Here's what happens: we crank "X" up until we can't tolerate the lag, and then we back off a bit. X includes:
- the number and size of textures in a build or attachment
- the number and complexity of scripts
- the number of attachment prims
- the draw distance
and no doubt a bunch of other things.
