If there is no obvious use for these ideas, there *should* be. I'm curious what the horse did on your HUD. Does it look like a horse or like a rainbow texture? |

You could always attach a horse to a HUD point, at which point it might be a Horse Under Duress.
(surely there must be someone out there who can come up with something funnier than that) _____________________

Of course there is. And plenty probably.
Although a hud is basically flat, you can still shape the face and edges, bake, include shadowing etc to whatever is needed. And with DetectedTouch, any area on any prim is/can be a button. DetectedTouch, joyously, also maps around sculpts. _____________________

Hopefully you were looking at a gifted horse in the mouth and not the other end! lol

Considering the way most HUDs load for me, I'd rather skip the additional rezzing strain of sculpties...

I put a sculpty called "Twisty" on the HUD and put a timer rotate script in it. My, it's annoying!
If you could sit on HUDs, which you can't, but if you could sit on HUDs, and the one you sat on was spinning, I think that might make your monitor flip around and maybe roll out into the street, forcing cars to careen wildly about to doge it, so I suppose, in the interest of highway safety, it's probably a good thing we can't sit on spinning HUDs. I guess you could use all the spots in your Hud, and put 255 sculpties on each spot, and use all that to make a 3D virtual world in your HUD, but I'm not sure there's any actual need of or purpose to a 3D virtual world, you know? ![]() Maybe one could make a sculpty HUD reproduction of what you have in front of you in SL , then at least you zoom in on it properly. (That's a bitter joke, the alt zoom function is totally screwed, which I personally find to be pretty close to a showstopper malfunction. ) Well, I'm still waking up, and probably shouldn't be up yet at all, so enough inanity about sculpties, time for some coffee. _____________________

How about a megaprim hud? Never tried that before. Set it to 100% glow.

Actually, yes, there might be a use for sculpties on HUDs if you use those new functions that let you get UV coordinates of a face touch. This would let you have an arbitrarily complex buttoned input surface in one prim. Considering that HUDs do add to your rendering load, even when they don't add to anyone else's, this could be in some ways advantageous.
Also, here's an idea. Preloader HUD with hundreds of invisible surfaces used to preload textures for a sim using some announcement protocol. This way, you could ensure delivery of sculpties critical to a sim's proper rendering - I imagine it could be highly handy for some artsy places. _____________________

FWIW, I've experimented with even animated sculpties on HUDs. Yes that works too. Parcel media on HUDs (Much better than having to view an in world screen thus being prevented from wandering your attention during conferences). Parcel media on animated sculpties on HUDs also works. But in terms of making fancier buttons, the whole idea rocks.

It doesn't have much to do with sculpties neither with the HUD, anyway many viewvers uses that tecnique already, they preloads the texture to being shown into tiny boxes (sometime even hidden, because the object occlusion doesn't seem to work properly here) so when they need to being rezzed on the main viewver thy are already preloaded by the avs around.... kinda like the llPreloadSound for the sounds... but manually. _____________________
