How long does it take once you have cancelled your Avatar does it take for the avatar not to show up in people search?

Hi Thom, welcome to the forums. :)

If the account was basic, I think it disappears within a few days, maybe a few weeks, but it will eventually disappear.

If it was premium, it may stay around until the time you paid for runs out.

I am not sure about all this coz I just spotted a guy back in SL whose account ended and I checked he's gone in Search BUT now he is back in SL and using the same name. Weird huh?

Hi Thom, when you cancelled your avatar, you would have got a message with a timeline of what would happen next. From memory, your avatar 'shuts down' after a month. Your profile remains visible and 'searchable' for that time. After that, it doesn't appear in search but your inventory remains intact and, for a fee, you can resuscitate the avatar (and reclaim your inventory) for a significant period - a year, I believe. It's possible to reinstate your avatar after an even longer period, but without your inventory.

Notwithstanding all that, your avatar's profile might still pop up in odd places. Long after deleting an alt (including trashing all inventory and ruthing the avatar beyond recognition), I clicked on an old link and voila! the profile popped up, complete with picture and dialogue which I had, admittedly, failed to delete. Unfortunately, I can't remember what I clicked to get it but needless to say, I was surprised. I'm no techie, but I know that many databases never delete the data but only render it dormant. Besides, I imagine the information we attach to our avatars is held in so many places that it would be impossible to guarantee it's not still lurking somewhere!

Just think - once created, there for eternity - scary!

Unless something changed since 2006, your inventory is wiped after one month, so don't take any risks in that regard. There's no time limit on reactivating your account. I know of one 2003 user who reactivated her account during December 2006. You just need to know the details you registered with, and provided you were honest at registration, that shouldn't be a problem.

I just reactivate my alt from 2003 few months back. I lost everything of value.
I have friends who quit who still are in groups with profiles even 8 months after they quit but I don't know if they deleted their accounts.
I have wonder about this myself

I think using my GM script for RA work is probably not the right solution.
