Do you need to be a premium member in order to purchase and own a private region island? I have heard conflicting reports.
Related to this, I'm contemplating buying the island from someone, not from LL. The purchase would be accomplished through both of us submitting tickets. However, non-premium members are limited in what types of support tickets they can submit, and land purchase/transfer is not one of those that appears to be suppported for non-premium members.
I do have payment info on file with LL, and would be paying the tier through Lindens that I cash out of my business in SL, so it would be $USD on account with Linden.
Can anyone shed some light on this *from first hand experience*. Thanks in advance.

You do NOT have to be a Premium member to own a Private Island. All you need is payment info on file, with a credit card that isn't usually at or over limit, so LL knows what credit card to bill.
Once you own a Private Island, you become a Concierge-level customer, and are eligible for live help even if NOT Premium.
