posting attachments

I have noticed some folks are able to post attachments in the new products section of the forums, but for some reason when I try, it fails.

I have tried using both firefox and internet explorer..

anyone know the secret?

Not to be confused with embedding a picture from a website, I know how to do that, I mean the manage attachments option, when I try it fails.

There are some posting option toward the bottom of the posting screen. One of them is for attachments. It lists the type of files that can be attached.

I do not mean to sound snippy, just been a bad day and I tried to explain as best I could

it is the options at the bottom, where it says manage attachments, it is supposed to let you post pics as an attachment, however when I try to, it gives me an error

yet I see others have succeeded, I am wondering HOW they managed to get past the error...

looks like no one knows, being no one has replied other than you, and your reply is just telling me to do what I already stated I have tried to do...

it has been like this for awhile, but now it seems some folks are able to post attachments again (and I am referring to the new products portion of the forums) (attachments is not turned on for this area)

/me sighs and thinks to self... maybe it is time I just walk away from the forums

the ones that it allows, mainly jpg

How big is the file?
it is small enough, as a test I tried one that I knew was too big, and got the too big msg, so went to one I knew was small enough, and it just gives an error

um.. an error... (after I upload it, it gives an error and doesn't attach)

I could grab one sure...I could post back here with snapshot, not sure why though as I can tell you what the error says...

The thing is, I used to be able to post with attachments in there, then it just stopped (and not just for me, as I see others comment in their posts that they can not attach either, yet I still see some do it and want to know how they do it heh

as it was pointed out to me in that thread, I may have started it, unintentionally, but I do not own it, it belongs to all those who keep it going...

You haven't said what the error message is.

The reason to report which forum is so that that others can try the same one and see what happened.

If you are trying to figure out what the problem is, trying other forums that allow attachments would be a logical thing to do, to see if there is a problem that affects only a particular forum.

I am not being rude, I am just frustrated, you (nor anyone in SL or on these forums) have ever seen me be rude (some might think it was me being rude, but far far from it)

I do thank you for trying to help, it is just frustrating to repeat over and over... I am trying to upload a pic using the attachments option then have someone ask me what I am trying to do....

I have done it before... so I know how, and what size and file types work... it is not user error (which I know part of your questions were eliminating)

ah well I guess I will just continue to post links to the pics or just stop using the new products and stick with using my blog...

Have you cleared your browser cache, seriously, and deleted the cookies for second life?

Sigh.

I get that same error when I try to add an attachment in that same forum - not sure about the other ones though.


And now I get posting errors. Php error - newreply.php not found. :/

I tried it four or five times. One time it was going to work, the other times it produced the error message.

Possibly the attachments one sees aren't the result of people finding a way around the problem but are just the one's produced when it works.

ok this may sound silly and it is not to upset you are try to stress you out at all but i learned to always ask the simple questions first in trouble shooting..

Did you look in the userCP section to see if there was a setting you needed to check or uncheck..
i know i could not even see images until i found i could change my settings for the forum..
i only say this because you mentioned it happens in two different browsers so something has to be related and most times if both browsers are not finding it then it is a setting on the actual site itself..most times anyways.

I never thought to check the CP as I never seen anything there before granting permission to attach pics etc.....

however... I decided to look again, and lo and behold there is an area, called attachments under Miscellaneous...
I looked in there, and it seems all the attachments I have done in the past are stored there... so I deleted some and ya know what... it let me attach some to a previous posted msg...

so I am guessing we are limited on the number of attachments.... anyone out there reading this and not able to attach images to posts please try deleting some of the old ones you have stored there....

I will also cross post this to the new products forums
(as it seems that is where most stuff is attached to posts)

It failed repeatedly for me.

I have no attachments in the Miscellaneous Attachments section of the User CP.

well it worked for me and hopefully it will be a fix for others

not sure why it worked, it just did, so I suggest to others to at least try it

In the UserCP if you haven't already tried this section
try in the edit options and then down to thread display options and make sure you have
"Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG]code)" Box checked

Thats where i went to get images working for me on the forum..I am not sure if that is what is wrong or not but just in case..

Images work fine. The problem is with uploading attachments.

Can anyone find an issue about this in the jira system? I just looked and didn't see anything.

I just tried it in the New Products: Homes & Gardens forum, it worked fine using the "Manage Attachments" button.

It is possible if the file size you were trying to upload is too large it will be rejected.

I'm on a MacBook Pro using Apple Safari web browser.

looks like this fix must be working for some folks, as I am seeing posts with attachments again over in the products wanted forum
