When you open the highlighted notecard, can you open the notecards it shows inside?

There are notecards inside for under several headings:

IPS FOR THE BEGINNER:

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

SPECIFIC TECHNICAL ISSUES:

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED TOPICS:

None of the notecards listed in these heading open for me.

Do they open for you?

My thread title is not quite accurate, these notecards aren't really intended for just new users.

The info would likely be at least somewhat out of date if they did work.

They also don't open up for me :(
All the cards were created between 2004-2006 but were last updated (as is written in the description of the notecard) in May of 2007. I had never noticed that this information was in my Library, but now that I know, I want to read them!!! I'm sure they would be very helpful...

If you drag it from the library to somewhere under My Inventory, the notecards inside will open. (edit to add: that is, drag the help notecard itself, not the links inside.)

Unfortunately, it doesn't say to do that in the title, just to double click. :( Thanks for the info.

Everyone in SL should examine everything in their library.

Note the Community Standards notecard. dated November of 2005.
Here's the "Further Help For Second Life" notecard contents:
From: someone
GUIDE: FURTHER HELP FOR SECOND LIFE
----------------------------------------------------------------
Key words: sl second life help support

Along with the F1 Help resource, there are many other ways to get help.

The Forums
You can post questions to the appropriate area of the Second Life Forums (forums.secondlife.com), to see what advice other residents can give you - and you search the forums for information and guidance that has previously been posted.

The Support Pages
You can take a look at the information on the support pages of the website (secondlife.com/support).

Live Help
If you think talking to someone in-world would help, you can contact Live Help by choosing Live Help... from your Help Menu. The Live Help team is made up of resident volunteers who are knowledgeable about Second Life, and who have kindly agreed to take time out to help others. When contacting Live Help, be sure to word your question clearly - all helpers that are currently on channel will see your message along with the on-shift Linden Liaisons.

Linden Liaisons
If your problem is a serious one, and requires a more immediate response - you can contact an on-shift Linden Liaison in-world. Liaisons are employees of Linden Lab who spend their time in-world aiding residents, dealing with problems and doing all they can to keep the world running smoothly for you.

Contacting Linden Lab
For some issues, it may be necessary to contact Linden Lab direct.

For technical issues, with your account or with the Second Life software, you can email support@lindenlab.com.

If you wish to speak with someone you can also telephone us, on the following toll-free numbers, staffed during our office hours: 8am-6pm PST, Monday through Friday.

* 1-800-961-6851 (US and Canada)
* (00) 800 722 00010 (UK)
* (0011) 800 722 00010 (Australia)

If you call us outside of business hours, just leave a voice mail giving your in-world name, real name and any other relevant information, and we'll get back to you the next business day.

Most of that is out of date; the Live Help group is not only inoperative but not even in existence any more, support@lindenlab.com I believe is no longer functional, there's no simple way to contact a liaison anymore, and no way given in the card, etc.

Some of the info in those cards are outdated.

The "Land Buying Advice for New Residents" card mentions none other than First Land.

From: someone
6. START WITH LAND FOR THE LANDLESS FIRST

Linden Labs has a program where new residents can buy 512 sq.m. for L$512. You can only do this if you have not previously owned land. More details at: http://secondlife.com/land/index.php

At L$1/sq.m. you can't beat this price, and you can eventually sell this land for a tidy profit. But before you do sell your land, learn what it is you can do with SL land. This is a great opportunity to do that.

To find first land:
1. In the SL, click the Find button at the bottom of the screen.
2. Select the Land Sales tab.
3. Select First Land from the dropdown menu.
4. Click Search.

This should list the First Land you can buy. Sometime all the first land is gone; Linden Labs adds more land regularly so you shouldn't need to wait too long for new land to show up.

Also the "Making Money in Second Life" notecard makes no mention of the Lindex when purchasing $L, but does mention the old 3rd party options.

Still helpful stuff though.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-634 ?

From: VWR-634
Inventory -> Library -> Notecards -> "HELP! (double click me to start)" -> Obsolete

This notecard contains many embedded notecards to help new users but clicking on the doesn't seem to do anything.

Also, the top of this notecard mentions Live Help - that should probably get reworded.

Yes, it took me a very long time to figure that one out. It will also say *you are not allowed to view this notecard* or something like that. Sometimes I can also drag the links inside. It just all depends...

This is the dreaded notecard problem. Embedded notecards no longer auto-open and copy to the users inventory. The linked notecards have to be dragged to inventory then opened. This is a huge drag, especially for new users. There is a JIRA about it...lots of people voted. Lindens say its resolved. Clearly, it is not.

Sorry!
