Is this a common thing? I've seen it often in games like Everquest 2 and WoW, but I didn't expect it from something like SL with its own economy and whatnot.. and yet, I recieved a message last night (While logged off, I only know from my email notification..) that was an add for someone selling L$.... I sure hope this isnt a common thing, it really irks me, and would actually decrease my pleasure from SL considerably if it happened while I was having fun....
Also, EQ2 at least set in a chat filter to reduce spam, certain combinations of words got the message blocked (And you notified so you can read it if you really want to or if it was a bad catch)...is there any chance of that happening in SL? Cause.. I found it annoying o.o

I've never gotten that particular type of spam. I did receive one spam IM (and it was sent to my OLD registered email address, too, even though I now have IMs to email turned off) from some Chinese website.

1) SpamThe spam thing inworld is uneven in my experience. My main and my second alt have never received any sort of spam. My first alt, though, is a target for "group invite" spam, getting at least 2-3 of these a week and sometimes much more. 2) Buying L$ from unknown sourcesDon't do it. Ever. People trying to sell their L$ through non-standard channels (like eBay or direct sales) are often trying to dispose of L$ obtained using stolen credit cards. If this is the case, and an investigation traces the stolen lindens to you, LL will take them back AND another 50% as a penalty. And as the person who sold it to you is long gone, you are the big loser, getting none of your money back. (I realize you probably already knew that, but I like to mention it when the topic comes up so new people won't have to learn the hard way.  )
